The Hilly Helmet Challenge

The Hilly Helmet Challenge takes place on Wednesday 5 August 2026 at Leighton Recreation Centre in Westbury. The route is approximately 4 miles long and includes at least one hill with downhill sections.

The event raises funds for the charity Brain Tumour Support. One hundred percent of each entry fee is received by the charity while event costs are covered by event partners. The organiser notes that the charity receives no government funding for its services.

Every participant receives a pottery memento. Prizes are awarded to the first male and female finishers and for the best helmet worn on the night. The event has received Racecheck awards in 2019, 2022 and 2024 based on participant ratings. In previous years Leighton Recreation Centre has provided facilities and Westbury Cricket Club has supplied refreshments and a BBQ.

The course is unsuitable for wheelchairs. For safety, runners are not permitted to run with dogs because some trails are narrow and may become slippery. An Association of Running Clubs race permit will be in place.

Entry is priced at £19 standard or £17 discounted for ARC and England Athletics affiliated club members; prices rise for on-the-night entry. Total places are limited to 150. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
