The Stur Half

The Stur Half is a road race organised by the Dorset Doddlers and scheduled for Sunday 2nd August 2026. The event runs on rural roads in and around Sturminster Newton and has been held since 1990. The race is sponsored by Honeybuns Bakery and supported by local businesses including Harts of Stur, Symonds and Sampson, and Root and Vine. On-course support includes water stations and marshals. While the main races take place, children’s races are held on the school field. A Silver Ticket backyard ultra at Grove Farm Estate on 1 May 2026 where competitors run repeated 4.167 mile loops each hour until one runner remains. Entry includes on-site camping for the runner and two crew.

Runaway Train in Shepton Mallet on 3 May 2026 combines a cross country trail race, a family walk and a town centre boxty feast, with scenic routes through woods, tunnels and viaducts and 8½ mile, 6 mile and 3 mile options.
