The MTC Cotswold Ultra

The MTC Cotswold Ultra is a 57 mile point-to-point ultramarathon following much of the Thames Path from Kemble Station to Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road. The route includes the Thames source, Somerford Keynes, Cricklade, Castle Eaton, Blackford Farm, Lechlade, Shifford Lock, Newbridge and Bablock Hythe, and features meanders, bridges and locks.

The route uses existing Thames Path signage; competitors are expected to use GPX files or route maps for navigation. Total ascent is 370 metres and total descent is 474 metres. UTMB points and the official course record are listed as t.b.a.

There are four staffed checkpoints that provide water and basic nutrition. Example items include malt loaf, cakes, sandwiches, nuts, dried fruit, sweets, squash, cola and water. The organisers endeavour to cater for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian diets; other dietary requirements should be supplied by the competitor or left as drop bags at checkpoints.

All finishers receive a bespoke Cotswold Ultra medal and competitors receive an MTC head visor at the start. Bespoke trophies are awarded to the first male and female finishers. Competitors are responsible for their own transport to the start and from the finish and must meet mandatory kit requirements, including map, compass or GPS, head torch, whistle, mobile phone and basic first aid. Entrants must be at least 20 years old and maintain an average of 4.0 miles per hour including stops or face removal from the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
