The Summer Green Man Ultra (MTC GMU)

The Summer Green Man Ultra is an event on the Community Forest Path near Bristol, offered in two distances on the same day with shared checkpoints and the same finish location. The course for both distances is run in a clockwise direction. From 2026 the event includes competitor tracking.

Distances

  • 45 miles full clockwise loop, Ashton Park School start and finish.
  • 30 miles partial clockwise loop, starts at The White Horse Hambrook and finishes at Ashton Park School.

There are four staffed checkpoints that provide water and a selection of food and drink. The event operates as cup free so competitors must bring a reusable cup. Hot food is available at the finish. Timing is by chip at the start and finish with manual timing also recorded throughout the course. A 12 hour completion framework is used and checkpoint cut-offs are enforced to monitor safety and progress.

All finishers receive a bespoke GMU medal and a technical GMU T shirt. Additional awards include top place medals, trophies for podium positions in both distances, veteran trophies, and free entry for the first male and female in each distance into the following year’s race. Runners who complete both the summer and winter 45 mile events in the same year are eligible for a cumulative time buckle in one of four time bands.

The race is self navigation. Competitors must be at least 20 years old and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit.
