The Summer GMU

Bristol, United Kingdom • 22 Aug 2026

Event details

The Summer Green Man Ultra (Summer GMU) takes place on 22 August 2026, organised by Ultra Running and based at Ashton Park School, Bristol. The event offers two distances:

  • 45 miles (full clockwise loop of the Community Forest Path)
  • 30 miles (partial clockwise loop, starting at The White Horse, Hambrook and finishing at Ashton Park School)

The 45 mile course records an ascent and descent of 945 m and is worth 3 UTMB points. GPS route files (GPX/KML) and written directions are provided for navigation.

Race format, services and rules

Both distances use the same checkpoints and finish; there are four checkpoints on the full loop. Checkpoints provide food and drinks (examples include water, squash, cola, sandwiches, cake, malt loaf) and competitors must bring a reusable cup as the event is cup-free. The race is chip timed at start and finish and manually timed at checkpoints. From 2026 all competitors will be tracked and shirts are available as an optional extra at entry.

Competitors must register online, be aged 20 or over at the start date, and carry mandatory kit: backpack, head torch with spare batteries, Ordnance Survey maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food (chocolate bars), and a basic first aid kit. Entry fees are non refundable. Checkpoint cut-offs are enforced to allow completion within a 12 hour window and failure to meet them will prevent continuation. Trophies and finisher medals are awarded; first male and female in each distance receive free entry to the following year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
