The Summer GMU

The Summer Green Man Ultra is held on the Community Forest Path near Bristol and is offered in two formats on the same course with the same checkpoints. The 45 mile format is a full clockwise loop starting and finishing at Ashton Park School just outside the centre of Bristol. The 30 mile format is a partial clockwise loop that starts at The White Horse in Hambrook and finishes at Ashton Park School.

Distances:

  • 45 mile full clockwise loop of the Community Forest Path
  • 30 mile partial clockwise loop starting at The White Horse Hambrook

The event uses four checkpoints on the 45 mile route to monitor times and well being and to provide water and food. The race is cup free so competitors must bring a reusable cup. From 2026 all entrants will be tracked and finisher items include a bespoke Green Man medal; race shirts are available as an optional extra at checkout. Trophies are awarded to top finishers by gender and veteran category and the first male and female in each distance receive free entry into the following year.

Entrants must be 20 years or older and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, Ordnance Survey maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. Checkpoints have cut off rules that enforce the event time limits and there are designated timelords who provide navigation and pacing support.
