The Summer Green Man Ultra (MTC GMU)

The event takes place on 22 August 2026 and is organised by Ultra Running Ltd around Bristol. It offers two race distances on the same day using the Community Forest Path, with shared checkpoints and a common finish at Ashton Park School. The course for the summer event runs in a clockwise direction. From 2026 the event will use competitor tracking.

Distances

  • 45 miles (full clockwise loop, start and finish at Ashton Park School)
  • 30 miles (partial clockwise loop, starts at The White Horse, Hambrook, finishes at Ashton Park School)

The 45 mile route lists ascent and descent of 945 metres and carries 3 UTMB points.

Logistics, kit and rules

Entries are non-refundable. Chip timing is used and manual timing is recorded throughout. There are four staffed checkpoints that provide water and some food; the event is cup-free so competitors must bring a reusable cup. There is an overall 12 hour completion limit and specific checkpoint cut-offs. Timelords run to target durations (9, 10, 11 and 12 hours) to assist with navigation and pacing. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, printed maps or OS map, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. All finishers receive a GMU medal; the race shirt is offered as an optional extra from 2026. Trophies and free entry for the next year are awarded to top finishers in each category.
