Race details

Distances:

  • 45 miles
  • 30 miles

The 45 mile race is a full clockwise loop of the Community Forest Path. The 30 mile event is a partial clockwise loop that shares the same checkpoints and finish as the 45, but has a different start location. The 45 mile race lists a total ascent and descent of 945 metres and carries 3 UTMB points.

Checkpoints: four checkpoints are used on the 45 mile route; two checkpoints are used for the 30 mile route. Checkpoint provisions typically include water, squash, cola, sandwiches, cake and light snacks; competitors must bring their own reusable cup as the race is cup-free. The event uses chip timing at start and finish and will include competitor tracking from 2026. Cut-off arrangements require completion within a 12 hour window for the full route.

Practical and safety rules: entrants must be at least 20 years old, carry mandatory kit (for example a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, map and compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit) and register online in advance. Finishers receive a bespoke Green Man medal; from 2026 race shirts are offered as an optional extra at checkout. Runners who complete both the winter and summer 45 mile events in the same year are awarded a GMU buckle, with four tiers based on cumulative time (sub 15, sub 18, sub 21, sub 24 hours).
