The Summer GMU
The Summer Green Man Ultra is an ultramarathon held around Bristol on the Community Forest Path. It is offered in two distances:
- 45 miles - full clockwise loop, starts and finishes at Ashton Park School
- 30 miles - partial clockwise loop, starts at The White Horse, Hambrook and finishes at Ashton Park School
Both distances use the same checkpoints and finish, and the course for the summer event runs clockwise. The route is self-navigation; GPX files and written directions are provided. From 2026 the event will include competitor tracking. There are four checkpoints that provide time monitoring, water and basic nutrition.
Entries, kit and prizes
Online registration is required and all deposits and payments are non-refundable. Registration options listed include GMU45 Solo (£93), GMU30 Solo (£78), GMU45 Solo plus 1 (£175), transfer/defer (£15) and an upgrade from GMU30 to GMU45 (£20). Race numbers must be worn on the front chest; the event uses chip timing at the start and finish and manual timing at intermediate checkpoints.
Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, printed maps or maps referenced, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. Finishers receive a bespoke GMU medal; from 2026 a race T-shirt is available as an optional extra at checkout. The event enforces checkpoint cut-offs to allow completion within a 12 hour period and entrants must be 20 years of age or over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
