The Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge

Snowdon Massif, United Kingdom • 9 May 2026

Route Overview

The Welsh Three Peaks Challenge covers three mountains in different regions of Wales. Participants summit Snowdon (1,085m) in the north, Cadair Idris (893m) in mid-Wales, and Pen y Fan (886m) in the south. The total walking distance is 17 miles (27.4 km) with a total ascent of 2,334 metres.

Participation Options

There are two main ways to complete the challenge. Guided events provide experienced mountain leaders, transport between the three peaks, and support throughout. Alternatively, individuals or teams can plan and undertake the challenge independently, providing their own vehicles and logistics.

Terrain and Logistics

The challenge is broken into three distinct stages, with significant travel by road required between the mountains in North, Mid, and South Wales. The total activity typically takes around 19 hours to complete. Organizers note it involves more total ascent than the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
