The Void - Valley-Hi

Valley-Hi, United States • 20 Nov 2026

Event Format

The Void is a 48-hour ultramarathon run entirely inside the Sideling Hill Tunnel, an abandoned tunnel on the Old Turnpike Trail in Valley-Hi, Pennsylvania. The course is a 1.3-mile corridor. Runners complete this out-and-back section 63 times, totaling just under 160 miles.

Course Details

The tunnel has no interior lighting. Runners navigate using their own headlamps. There is no scenery or variation on the course. The event uses a Toll Ticket system, which limits how often a runner may leave the tunnel to access support.

Participation Requirements

Entry into the event requires an application reviewed by the race directors. Priority is given to applicants with demonstrated extreme endurance experience, such as a 100-mile ultramarathon, backyard ultra, or FKT. The event is limited to 96 participants.

Historical Context

Sideling Hill Tunnel was originally constructed in the 1880s and later finished for the Pennsylvania Turnpike. It was abandoned in 1968. The race distance of 160 miles is a reference to the original length of the Pennsylvania Turnpike from Carlisle to Irwin. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
