Lost Turkey Trail Races

The event takes place in the Blue Knob and Windber area of central Pennsylvania, with the main venue at Chappell's Field in Blue Knob State Park and the Lost Turkey Trail as the primary route. Course terrain includes single track and double track trails, steep climbs and steep descents as the route traverses the southern Allegheny Front toward Blue Knob.

Distance options

  • 50K point to point from Windber to Chappell's Field.
  • Half marathon 13.1 mile loop beginning and ending at Chappell's Field.
  • 10K(ish) Little Turkey loop from Chappell's Field via Herman Point.

Course notes describe the 50K as a point to point route that follows the Lost Turkey Trail to Blue Knob and finishes at Chappell's Field. The half marathon is a loop that joins the Lost Turkey Trail and climbs toward the Windber trailhead before returning to Chappell's Field. The 10K(ish) follows Chappell's Field Trail onto the Lost Turkey Trail, climbs to Herman Point, then descends via a connector trail to the finish.

Cutoff times apply at aid stations: Lost Children Aid Station 2:30pm and Hairpin Aid Station 4:30pm. A paid transportation option moves participants from Chappell's Field to the 50K start in Windber.

RunHikePlay, Inc administers the event as a not for profit run by volunteers. Net proceeds are distributed to local nonprofit partners. The event is Trail Sisters Approved and includes commitments to equal podium spots, equal prize money and awards, women specific apparel and menstrual products at aid stations.
