Event

The Chernisky Classic takes place in Ebensburg, PA on July 11, 2026. The event offers the following distances:

  • 10K

There is also a free Firecracker Race for children age 8 and under. Firetrucks and firefighters will be on site to greet and interact with children. Same-day packet pick-up and race day registration are available. Participants who start early as part of a rolling start will not be officially timed or eligible for prizes. Participants who start in the competitive group will be officially timed; prizes will be awarded to the top five male and top five female finishers in each running event.

Course and facilities

Both the 5K and 10K are out-and-back courses on the Ghost Town Trail, a nationally recognized rail-trail named the 2020 Trail of the Year. Cold water will be available at the start/finish area and on the trail. The 5K passes a water station at its turnaround; the 10K passes that water station twice. Restrooms are located at the Young People's Community Center (300 Prave Street, Ebensburg, PA).

Race day registration is $33 (shirt not guaranteed). The first 400 finishers receive a voucher to a Johnstown Tomahawks game. Commemorative shirts or tank tops are included with registration (women's sizes only). Group and firefighter discounts apply for paper registrations. No refunds will be issued. Run the Dirty Kiln Trail Races at Canoe Creek State Park in Hollidaysburg PA on April 11, 2026 with a 10K or hilly half marathon. Expect singletrack, stream crossings and muddy sections on this volunteer run event.
