Event Overview

The Chernisky Classic is a running event on July 11, 2026. The 12th annual event is a family-friendly day with a 5K run/walk and a 10K run. There is also a free Firecracker Race for children 8 years and under. Firetrucks and firefighters are present to interact with children.

Course Details

Both the 5K and 10K events are out-and-back courses on the Ghost Town Trail, a rail-trail in Cambria County. The trail has been nationally recognized. Water is available at the start/finish line and on the trail. For the 5K, there is a water station at the turnaround point. For the 10K, participants pass a water station twice. Restrooms are located at the start/finish area.

Event Location and Schedule

The event starts and finishes at the Young People's Community Center (YPCC) at 300 Prave Street in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. Packet pickup and race-day registration are available from 6:45 AM. An early, untimed rolling start option is available from 6:45 AM to 9:00 AM for participants not seeking official timing or prizes. The official timed group start for the 5K and 10K is at 9:05 AM. The free children's Firecracker Race begins at 10:20 AM.

Registration and Benefits

Registration fees vary by date, from $16 to $33. Registration includes a commemorative race t-shirt or tank top. The first 400 finishers receive a voucher for a Johnstown Tomahawks hockey game. Prizes are awarded to the top five male and female finishers in both the 5K and 10K running events. All proceeds benefit the Training Facility of the Cambria County Regional Firefighters Association.
