Ironstone 100K Ultra
Ironstone 100K is a point-to-point 100 kilometer ultramarathon in the Ridge and Valley region of Pennsylvania. The route begins at Canoe Creek State Park in Blair County, follows sections of the Lower Trail, Mid State Trail and Standing Stone Trail, and finishes at Greenwood Furnace State Park in Huntingdon County.
The course includes a mix of rail-trail and technical singletrack. Notable features are ridge running atop Tussey Mountain on the Mid State Trail, a folded sandstone and quartzite ridgeline, old-growth pines at Alan Seeger Natural Area, a mountain pass at Little Juniata Natural Area, and craggy ledges at Indian Wells. The race requires navigation of remote trails, frequent climbs, and night running. Aid stations are limited and pacers are not allowed. Participants must complete the course within 23 hours.
Entry requires prior trail experience. Applicants must have completed at least one advertised 50K trail race within the official cut-off time between January 1, 2025 and their date of registration; timed events, FKTs, obstacle course races, and multisport events generally do not qualify unless the run portion is an official 50K with public results. Historically the event has had an overall finish rate between 40% and 70%.
To be eligible for entry, each participant must document at least eight hours of volunteer work on public trails or make a donation to support the Mid State Trail or the Standing Stone Trail. A survey to report hours or donations will be provided one week before race day.
Finishers receive a metal award, a flannel shirt, and complimentary beer and beverages. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
