Quarry Shack 5 Miler
The Quarry Shack 5 Miler is a nighttime event on the Ghosttown Trail's Rexis Branch in Vintondale, Pennsylvania, held on Halloween. This is the sixth annual edition of the race, which features a 5-mile run and a 5-mile walk. The start and finish are at the Rexis trailhead, located past a closed gate next to an old train.
The course is a completely closed, out-and-back route on a trail with no road crossings. It is a flat rail trail with a steady incline of 115 feet over the first 2.5 miles, followed by a descent on the return. A water stop is located near the turn-around point, which is marked by a large Halloween decoration. Halloween costumes are encouraged.
Participants must provide their own lighting, such as a headlamp or handheld light. The event includes chip timing, a custom race bib and sticker, and post-race snacks. There will be Halloween decorations along the course and a themed start/finish arch. Awards are given for top overall and age group finishers in both the run and walk divisions, and awards are not mailed. The time limit is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
T-shirts are available as an add-on purchase with a firm order deadline. Day-of registration is available, but only with cash or check. Bathrooms are located near the start area.
