Quarry Shack 5 Miler - 6th Annual

The Quarry Shack 5 Miler is a nighttime running and walking event held on October 31, 2026, on the Ghosttown Trail - Rexis Branch in Vintondale, PA. The course is a closed out-and-back on the trail, roughly 2.5 miles each way, with the turnaround a little past the Red Mill Bridge. There are no road crossings or intersections on the course.

Participants must provide their own lighting such as headlamps or handheld lights; the course is dark except for limited official lighting at the start/finish and registration areas. There is one water stop under a pavilion near the turnaround and post-race water and snacks at the finish area. Halloween decorations and some course lighting will be present; course staff state there will not be actors jumping out at participants. Costumes are encouraged. A start/finish arch with themed banners is planned, weather permitting.

Timing uses chip bibs with a mass start and chip finish. The event enforces a 1 hour 30 minute time limit. Awards are given to top three male and female overall and by age groups for the run and walk divisions; specific age brackets are listed in the event rules. Children 10 and under have a registration option and must complete the distance under their own power to be eligible for awards. T-shirt orders have an October 4 deadline and are an add-on fee.
