Rock 'N The Knob Trail Challenge

The 14th annual Rock 'N The Knob is held at Blue Knob in Claysburg, Pennsylvania on September 12, 2026. The event takes place at over 3,100 feet above sea level and is described as Pennsylvania's highest race.

Three course options are offered:

  • 50K Ultramarathon atop Blue Knob
  • 13.1 mile Medium Distance course atop Blue Knob
  • 10K Short Course Spruce Knob atop Blue Knob

Course details: the 50K includes sections from the shorter courses and involves approximately 7,500 feet of climbing with repeated ascents of Blue Knob. The medium distance course covers 13.1 miles with about 3,500 feet of climbing; it has three aid stations (mile 4.6, mile 7.2, mile 11.1) and a six and a half hour time limit. The 10K includes roughly 1,496 feet of climbing, two major climbs and one aid station at the base of the first climb near mile 3; pacers, drop bags, and crew are not permitted for that course.

Terrain is technical and rocky compared with other nearby races. Entry fees include a swag package and post-race food and beer. Lodging is available at Blue Knob All-Seasons Resort. Trail runs nearby

Trail races at Camp Harmony around Quemahoning Reservoir include a 50K solo, a four person relay, a 30K lap and a new 10K loop. The forested course features singletrack, rolling hills, aid stations, and a 10 hour cutoff.

Run & Reel Spring Festival at Camp Kanesatake combines a 5K and 10K trail run with a fishing tournament on Spruce Creek, plus vendors, hayrides, a zipline and a kids carnival for a full day of outdoor activities.

A figure eight trail race at Greenwood Furnace State Park near Huntingdon, PA, featuring a half marathon and a 12K. The course is described as arduous and technical with the park firetower at the center.

Follow the historic path of the 1889 Johnstown Flood on a hybrid road and rail trail course. Runners can choose between three distances and experience the historic Staple Bend Tunnel before finishing at the Old Stone Bridge.
