Chernisky Ghost Town Trail-a-thon : Event overview

The Chernisky Ghost Town Trail-a-thon is a multi-distance trail event held on October 4, 2025, finishing at Duman Lake County Park in Ebensburg, PA. Distances offered include:

  • Marathon (26.2 miles) - point-to-point Ebensburg to Duman Lake
  • 15 miler - point-to-point from Nanty Glo to Duman Lake
  • 5K - out-and-back from Duman Lake County Park
  • 0.0k Couch Potato - staged start and immediate finish
  • Casual bicycle ride (26.2 miles) - group ride from Duman Lake to Twin Rocks and back

The marathon and 15-miler use the Ghost Town Trail and the C & I Extension, including recent trail extensions. The 5K is crushed gravel with some pavement and a couple minor climbs. The bike route includes a single-track section near the park with potential roots and rocks.

Logistics, amenities and rules

Packet pick-up is available Friday, October 3 at Up-N-Running in Ebensburg and on race day at Duman Lake County Park. Pre-registered participants are guaranteed a commemorative long sleeve shirt; all finishers receive a finisher's medal. Youth entries (age 17 and under) are free. Proceeds benefit Cambria County trails and the county firefighters training facility.

There are four full aid stations and three water-only stations spaced along the marathon course; ADA restrooms are available at multiple locations. The marathon has a 15 minute per mile pace limit; participants unable to maintain that pace may be offered a ride to the finish area and aid stations may not be available. The AWD (Athletes with Disabilities) division is open for the 5K with non-motorized adaptive equipment only; guides must follow event guide rules and must register to receive race amenities.
