The Tick is a point-to-point, singletrack trail race in the Ocala National Forest, Florida. The course follows the Florida National Scenic Trail from Alexander Springs State Park to the Rodman Reservoir Dam. The advertised distance is 50 miles plus 7.41 bonus miles, for a total of 57.41 miles. The route passes through lakes, prairies, marshes, and tall-growth pine and hardwood forests.
Wildlife and trail conditions include deer, bobcats, black bears, hawks, eagles, scrub jays, rabbits, snakes, turtles, squirrels, mice, and ticks. Runners should expect humid and hot conditions, wetlands, uneven trail surfaces, and dense vegetation.
Logistics and requirements
Crew support is mandatory; the event is not self-supported. Organizers note limited access to natural water sources, and the longest distance between crew-accessible locations is approximately 10.5 miles. Runners without a crew are not allowed to participate. The format is point-to-point, so participants are responsible for arranging transportation from the finish back to their vehicle. A reliable communication device (for example, a cell phone or GPS messenger) is required for runners and/or their crews. The event has no refund policy; registered runners may use a 75% rollover credit toward the following year if claimed within the stated deadline. Registration closes April 30.
