Event Details
The Tick is a 57.41-mile (92.4 km) ultramarathon run on the Florida National Scenic Trail through the Ocala National Forest. The course is a point-to-point route on singletrack trail from Alexander Springs State Park to the Rodman Reservoir Dam. The route passes through various Florida ecosystems, including lakes, prairies, marshes, and pine and hardwood forests.
Key Requirements
Crew support is mandatory for all participants due to limited natural water access on the course, with the longest stretch between crew-accessible points being approximately 10.5 miles. Runners are responsible for arranging their own transportation from the finish line back to the start. A reliable communication device, such as a cell phone or GPS messenger, is required for safety.
Additional Information
The event is described as an "old school fat ass ultra" with no registration fee. Participation is capped at 50 runners. A suggested donation of $25 per participant is encouraged to support the Florida Trail Association. The Ocala National Forest is home to wildlife including deer, bobcats, black bears, and ticks. Trail conditions can include humidity, heat, wetlands, and uneven surfaces. Bib pickup occurs at the start line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
