The Legacy
The Legacy is an off-road trail race held in Sapphire, North Carolina, with the course routed through Gorges State Park and the area around 976 Grassy Ridge Road. The event is organized by Dirty Wolf Ultras and the race proceeds support research into brain deterioration and learning disabilities. The event is held in memory of the organizer's parents.

The course follows trails and runners are advised to bring trekking poles. In wet conditions the course may be shortened to an out-and-back of the initial seven miles. Packet pickup is available the day before the race. Aid stations will be stocked with basic food items such as pickles, cereal, pretzels, candy, fruit, and bacon, and will offer water, Tailwind, and a variety of sodas; first aid supplies will be available at the aid station.
The event enforces a 12 hour overall cutoff. Medals are handmade and unique and are awarded on race completion. Entry fees are non-refundable; this policy applies even if the event is canceled due to weather. Additional rules note that dogs and strollers are not allowed on course except by special exception, the event is private so unregistered participants are not allowed, and runners and walkers must finish within the time limit.
