The Ring - Massanutten Trail 71-mile circuit

The Ring is a clockwise circuit of the orange-blazed Massanutten Trail around Fort Valley, VA, covering 71 miles on ridgelines in the George Washington National Forest with approximately 13,500 feet of total ascent and descent. The course follows the continuous Massanutten Trail and is rocky and largely on native trail blazes rather than ribbons or glow sticks.

Aid stations are located along the course at Milford Gap (13.3 mi), Camp Roosevelt (24.9 mi), Crisman Hollow Road (34.4 mi), Moreland Gap (40.7 mi), Edinburg Gap (48.7 mi), Woodstock Tower (56.9 mi), and Powell's Fort Camp (62.4 mi). Milford Gap is mainly a water stop; Camp Roosevelt is off the orange trail and accessed via a short road segment of about 150 yards. Roving and static drop bag rules allow a roving bag at several midcourse stations and a separate Woodstock Tower bag at mile 56.9. A GPX file and printed aid station charts are available for navigation and planning.

There are three hard cut-offs: Moreland Gap 9:30 pm, Edinburg Gap 1:30 am, and Woodstock Tower 6:00 am. Entry opens July 6, 2026 at 9:00 am, is limited to 60 runners, and is subject to qualification review. Qualifying criteria require recent trail ultramarathon experience such as a trail 50-miler plus Massanutten experience or completion of a 100-mile race.

The organizing club does not provide medical personnel or medical supplies on course; participants are responsible for their own safety and emergency care. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
