The Ring
The Ring is a single-loop, 71-mile circuit of the orange-blazed Massanutten Trail in the George Washington National Forest around Fort Valley, Virginia. The course follows ridgelines of the eastern and western ranges of the Massanutten Mountains and lies roughly between Front Royal and Luray. The trail surface is rocky and uneven, with a listed total ascent and descent of 13,500 feet.
Aid support is provided at multiple trail crossings including Milford Gap (13.3 mi), Camp Roosevelt (24.9 mi), Crisman Hollow Road (34.4 mi), Moreland Gap (40.7 mi), Edinburg Gap (48.7 mi), Woodstock Tower (56.9 mi), and Powell's Fort Camp (62.4 mi). The Milford Gap stop is primarily a water pit stop. Camp Roosevelt is not on the orange trail and requires following short road streamers to a shelter before returning to the trail. Runners may use two labeled drop bags: a roving bag available at several midrace aid stations and a Woodstock Tower bag reserved for mile 56.9; there are no drop bags at Milford or Powell's Fort Camp. A GPX file and printable aid station charts are provided by the organizers.
Entry is limited to 60 runners, opens on July 6, 2026, and uses a first-come, first-punished waitlist with qualification review. Qualifying criteria include completion of a trail 50 miler plus recent Massanutten experience or completion of any 100-mile race. There are three hard cutoffs: Moreland Gap (mile 40.7) 9:30 pm, Edinburg Gap (mile 48.7) 1:30 am, and Woodstock Tower (mile 56.9) 6:00 am; these are strictly enforced.
This event does not provide medical personnel or medical supplies along the course. Runners are responsible for their own health, safety, and emergency care while on the trail. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
