The Porth i Gymru Ultra Marathon

The PIGUM is a 30 mile ultra marathon that takes place around the market town of Abergavenny, often referred to as the Gateway to Wales. The route features approximately 5,446 feet of total elevation gain, traversing various mountain peaks and trails. The terrain consists of approximately 80% trail and 20% road.

A central landmark of the course is the Sugar Loaf mountain, which stands at 1,955 feet. People running the event will cross over this peak, which provides views across the Brecon Beacons, south Wales, and south-west England. The course also passes through the Llanwenarth, Deri, and Rholben hills.

Participants have access to two fully stocked checkpoints along the route. These aid stations provide snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, and power banks. There are no strict time limits for the event, as the organizers focus on supporting all participants to reaches the finish line.

The mandatory kit list includes appropriate footwear, a one-liter water carrier, a mobile phone, a headlamp or light source, a foil blanket, a waterproof jacket, and a rucksack. Upon completion, participants receive a Pegasus medal and post-race care. Registration opens on the morning of the event in Abergavenny, which serves as both the start and finish location. Trail runs nearby

A 7 hour time challenge at Dare Valley Country Park offering distances from 3 km up to ultra and 50 km. Finishers receive a themed medal and distance pins, with aid stations and vegan options on course.

A Pentyrch hill race covering 11.3 km with 488 m of climb on a partially marked course, featuring a 45 minute cutoff near the Garth summit about 2 miles in. Day registration costs £10 and facilities include showers and bar snacks.

Trail races based in Brecon with circular routes through Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Options are 100 km, 75 km and marathon distances with marked junctions, multiple checkpoints, a compulsory kit list and GPS route files.

A Pretty Muddy 5k obstacle course at Coopers Field, Bute Park on 02 May 2026 where participants climb, crawl and slide to raise funds for cancer research. The event has a £50 minimum fundraising target and is for ages 13 and over.
