The PIGUM 2026 : The Porth i Gymru Ultra Marathon

The PIGUM 2026 is a 30 mile ultra marathon around Abergavenny, described as a lap of the Gateway to Wales. The route starts and finishes in Abergavenny and has an elevation profile of approximately 5,446 ft. The course surface is a mixture of trail and road, listed as about 80% trail and 20% road.

The route passes over the Sugar Loaf mountain, which the organisers describe as a prominent local peak at 1,955 feet, and includes views across south Wales and the Brecon Beacons. Route maps and downloadable files are provided via plotaroute.com to allow for last minute updates and navigation device formats.

There are three fully stocked checkpoints along the route. Checkpoints are described as being manned and offering snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, power banks and music; organisers will accommodate dietary requirements if informed.

Mandatory kit requirements include appropriate footwear, a water carrier of at least 1 litre, a mobile phone, a headlamp or other light source for tunnels or night-time sections, a foil blanket, a waterproof jacket and a rucksack.
