The PIGUM 2026

The PIGUM is a 30 mile ultra marathon held on July 4th 2026 around Abergavenny, described as the Gateway to Wales. The route loops around local mountain peaks and trails, crosses the Sugar Loaf, and returns to Abergavenny. The course has approximately 5,446 ft of elevation gain.

Terrain is mainly trail with some road sections, listed as about 80 percent trail and 20 percent road. There are two fully staffed checkpoints along the route that provide snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seats, power banks and music. The event does not enforce a finishing time limit.

Maps and route files are supplied via plotaroute and can be downloaded for navigation; the organisers may issue last minute route updates through that system. Entrants receive pre-event communications by email at several points before the race and a telephone call from the race director in the days before the event.

Mandatory kit includes appropriate footwear, a water carrier of around 1 litre, a mobile phone, a head lamp or other light source for tunnels or night-time, a foil blanket, a waterproof jacket and a rucksack. Entry benefits listed by the organisers include a Pegasus medal, post race care, fully stocked checkpoints, and event crew support. The event is presented as professionally organised.
