The Maverick Chilterns Trail 2026 is a trail running event held on Saturday 11 July 2026 in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire. The start and finish are at Princes Risborough School on Merton Road, postcode HP27 0DR. The event is organised by Maverick Race and is held in person.
The routes run through the Chiltern Hills, including ancient beech woodland, ridgelines and valleys, with views over the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire countryside. Parts of the 50 km course follow sections of the Ridgeway and the Chiltern Way, passing villages, bridleways and chalk downs. The terrain includes chalky paths, woodland singletrack and undulating hills.
Dogs are not allowed at this event because the venue is a school. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
Distances, elevation and support
The event offers five distances:
- 50 km Ultra, elevation gain +1095 m
- 40 km Marathon, elevation gain +906 m
- 22 km Half Marathon, elevation gain +583 m
- 14 km Middle, elevation gain +301 m
- 8 km Short, elevation gain +209 m
There are 5 outposts on the 50 km route, 4 on the marathon and 1 on the half marathon. There are no outposts on the middle or short routes. Outposts provide water for refill plus sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink. Runners need their own reusable cup or bottle, as the event aims to be plastic free.
The 50 km ultra has a time limit of 8 hours 30 minutes, and the marathon has a time limit of 8 hours.
Mandatory kit and facilities
For the 50 km Ultra and Marathon, the following items are mandatory: waterproof jacket, mobile phone, at least 1 litre of water, approximately 800 calories of food, foil blanket, whistle, self-adhering elastic bandage, cap or buff, reusable cup and the GPX route on a watch or phone. All runners are strongly advised to carry at least 1 litre of water and a mobile phone.
Facilities at the venue include free parking, a bag drop area, fully marked courses, timing and online results, event photography, food and drink for purchase, a finishers medal and non-alcoholic beer.
