The Ellerbe Marathon and Half Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Ellerbe, North Carolina. The event includes two distances:

  • Half Marathon - 13.1 miles

2026 event fees are tiered at $60, $75, and $85. All registrations will have the event registration fee added at checkout.

Course and logistics

Both courses are USATF certified. The start and finish are near the Ellerbe Rescue Squad headquarters in downtown Ellerbe. Runners leave on Page St. and complete a countryside loop that returns to Ellerbe at the half marathon distance. Marathon participants run the same loop twice. All roads used are paved state secondary roads and remain open to traffic. A course map and certification details are available on the race web site.

History and race features

The race first ran in 1992; the initial event on April 12, 1992 had 41 entrants and 39 finishers. The race has been held continuously since 1992 and is described as the oldest continuously held marathon in North Carolina. Race features now include pre-race shirts, pottery wine cups for finishers, custom medals, snacks at aid stations, and a post-race meal. Trail runs nearby

Run for a cause in the Miles 4 Moore Trail Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K in Southern Pines. Enjoy scenic Reservoir Park trails, on course aid, finisher medals, and support fitness programs for local families and students.

Choose 25K or 50K on sandy, rooty trails beneath longleaf pines at Weymouth Woods in Southern Pines NC. Enjoy a chip timed race, tech shirt and finisher medal while supporting Friends of Weymouth Woods.

Uforea offers day and night 50K races and a combined 100K on scenic Uwharrie and Dutchman's Creek trails near Troy NC. The same two loop course is run in opposite directions for a unique day and night challenge. Register by April 11.
