The Drop - Cardiff
The Drop - Cardiff is an endurance navigation event in Cardiff scheduled for 24/07/2027. Participants are taken by bus to an undisclosed drop-off and must make their way back to the event centre using their own navigation.
Available distances include:
- 6 mile
- 10 mile
- 15 mile
At registration participants hand over electronic devices and navigational aids and receive a race number and an emergency bag. Competitors board the bus, don a blackout blindfold or an approved alternative, and are driven to the drop location. Distances are measured as the crow flies, so the actual route taken may be longer.
The event operates under strict rules: devices that record progress must remain sealed in the emergency bag, unauthorised maps are not permitted, and shortcuts are not allowed. Breaking the emergency bag seal will lead to disqualification. Blindfolds can be replaced with blackout safety goggles where needed.
Live GPS tracking is available as an optional, paid feature separate from the entry fee. Organisers state trackers are typically accurate within 5 metres but can suffer signal issues in built-up or obstructed areas; trackers should be placed with a clear view of the sky. All trackers must be returned after the event or a £175 replacement fee will apply.
Parking is available in the town centre. The nearest railway station is about a 10 minute walk and the bus station about 5 minutes from the event HQ. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
