The Cut Ultra
Nerang, Australia • 31 Oct 2026
Event Overview
The Cut Ultra is a unique elimination-style running event held at the Gold Coast Cycle Centre on the Criterium Track in Nerang, Queensland. The course is conducted on a bitumen surface, with the track design allowing for multiple configurations including clockwise, anti-clockwise, and various "figure" layouts. Participants run successive laps, with a specific number of runners eliminated at the end of each lap.
Race Format and Categories
The event features a main race, a dedicated women's format, and a junior version. In the main event, the total distance varies depending on how long a runner remains in the competition, ranging from 10.5 km to a maximum of 50 km.
- The Women's Cut: Held within the existing format, this category monitors female participant numbers and enforces an amnesty once 20 women remain. Separate cuts for men and women commence after the second break (Lap 23).
- The Junior Cut: Designed for participants aged 10-16 years, this version uses 500m laps. Runners complete between 2 km and 5 km, with eliminations starting from the fourth lap.
- The Main Event: Open to runners aged 12 and over. Participants aged 12-15 have a mandatory cut at 21 km if they have not been eliminated earlier.
Logistics and Precinct
The venue includes a "Party Precinct" where participants can set up 3x3 gazebos or picnic rugs. The site features a trackside bar, food vans, coffee, and live music. This is a cup-less event, requiring all athletes to bring their own reusable drinking vessels for hydration stations providing water and electrolyte drinks. A first aid officer is stationed at the precinct for the duration of the event.
