The Cross Fell Race

Garrigill, United Kingdom • 5 Jul 2026

Event overview

The Cross Fell Race for GNAAS takes place on Sunday 5 July 2026 in Garrigill, North Pennines, England. This is the sixth running of the FRA-permitted fell race. The event raises funds for local charities, including the air ambulance and Garrigill Village Hall. Entries open 1 December 2025 and close 4 July 2026. Pre-entry fees are shown as FRA member £8.00 and non-member £10.00, with higher fees for entry on the day.

Course and logistics

The route is a lasso course of 24 km with 680 m of climb, taking in the summit of Cross Fell and the source of the River Tees. The course uses the Pennine Way and bridle paths, is fully marshalled, and is run under FRA rules. Runners must carry mandatory kit: full body cover (taped seams), hat, gloves, map, compass and whistle. There is a strict cut-off applied at the second checkpoint, which will also serve as the bad weather return point. Race headquarters and changing, shower and toilet facilities are at Garrigill village hall. Parking is as directed by marshals and must not use the village green or block residents’ driveways. Dogs are not permitted. Prizes are awarded by age category and for teams of three men and three women. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
