The Cancer Kickers Big Buffalo 50
The Cancer Kickers Big Buffalo 50 is a multi-distance running event held at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, Tennessee on April 3, 2027. The event includes the following distances:
- 50 Mile
- 50K
- 50K Relay
- 10K
The course is lap-based: the 50 mile route is eight laps, the 50K and relay run five laps, and the 10K is one lap. There are three aid stations on course that will provide water and Hammer Nutrition Heed electrolyte drink. On-course nutrition offerings include GU and Hammer gels, PB&J sandwiches, fruit, granola bars, cookies and gummies.
This event serves as an annual fundraiser for the Cancer Kickers Soccer Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in Memphis in 2016. The organization provides custom soccer kits to children undergoing cancer treatment; more than 3,200 children have received kits so far. A complete kit costs $300 to deliver. The event materials state that one relay team supports one child, four 50K runners collectively support one child, and three 50 mile runners collectively support one child.
Relay team packets are issued for the entire team when the first team member picks up the packet; all bibs, swag, and the timing chip are distributed at that time. Relay exchange takes place just beyond the start/finish/split line. Teams and crews may set up tents beyond the finish area and may use those tents as on-course aid between laps.
