The C2C Essex Ultra
The C2C Essex Ultra is a charity ultramarathon held on 12th September, organised by c2c to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Participants can choose from three route distances and travel along the Thames to the Essex coast.
The available distances are:
- 50 miles - starts at Upminster station.
- 30 miles - starts in Tilbury.
- 10 miles - starts at Benfleet station.
The route runs east along the Thames, using sections of the London Loop and England Coast National Trails. Underfoot is mainly tarmac with some hard trail sections. The scenery includes urban areas, marshland and river bank with views across the Thames and parts of Greater London.
Logistics and support include registration and issuance of a timing GPS tracker at each start, race numbers sent at least one week before the event, free travel on c2c trains for participants who show their race number, and free photos and changing facilities at the finish. A course manager oversees the event and a fully qualified medical crew will be in attendance.
Mandatory kit requirements are a fully charged mobile phone and a minimum of 500 ml of water. There are regular checkpoints with water and food - 8 for the 50 mile, 5 for the 30 mile and 1 for the 10 mile route. Participants must bring their own cup and provide any specialist food marked with their name and checkpoint number. The minimum age for entry is 18 and entries close one week before the event or when full; a waitlist may be available. A safety cutoff is in place at the 72 km aid station.
