Event overview
The Thames Ring Series is a multi-distance trail event centred on Streatley-on-Thames (Morrell Rooms). The main route is an anti-clockwise loop that follows the Thames, the Grand Union Canal and the Oxford Canal, mostly on canal and riverside paths. The 2026 event is scheduled over 22-26 April 2026.
Distances and overall time limits:
- 250 mile - full Thames Ring, 100 hours total.
- 150 mile - from the start to Nether Heyford, 53 hour cutoff.
- 100 mile - from Nether Heyford to the finish, 34 hour cutoff.
Navigation is by provided maps and .GPX files. All entrants are tracked by GPS trackers that include an emergency SOS function.
Format, logistics and facilities
Checkpoints are placed roughly every 25 miles and provide food and basic facilities; sleeping tents are available at some CPs and after about 75 miles. Start and finish facilities include toilets, changing and indoor space. Drop bag rules: 250 and 150 runners may use one bag up to 20 kg transported to each checkpoint; 100 mile runners have one bag accessible at the Lower Heyford CP. Outside support is only allowed at designated checkpoints; pacers and travelling with others are restricted. Required kit includes at least 1 litre fluid capacity, full waterproof top and bottoms, hat or buff, sufficient food, mobile phone with charge, and a headtorch (minimum 100 lumens). Entry fees for 2026 are £350 (250), £175 (150) and £125 (100); entrants must be 18 or over. Only finishers receive a finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
