Thames Ring Series
The Thames Ring Series comprises three long-distance canal and riverside trail races that start and finish in Streatley-on-Thames, using an anti clockwise loop that follows the Thames, the Grand Union Canal, and the Oxford Canal.
Distances and time limits:
- TR250, about 250 miles (approx. 256), cut-off 100 hours.
- TR150, about 150 miles (approx. 158), cut-off 53 hours.
- TR100, about 100 miles (around 98), cut-off 34 hours.
Routes run mainly on towpaths and footpaths with some urban sections. Checkpoints are positioned roughly every 25 miles and provide basic food, drinks, toilets at some sites, and sleeping tents at selected locations. Start, finish, and two indoor checkpoints have indoor sleeping and changing facilities.
Navigation materials include GPX files and printable maps provided in the race packs; final maps and GPX files are published close to the event. All runners are GPS tracked and trackers include an emergency SOS function.
Support rules and baggage: outside support is only permitted at designated checkpoints, pacers are not allowed, and 250/150 runners may use one drop bag up to 15 kg transported between checkpoints. The 100 has a single drop bag access point at Lower Heyford.
Mandatory kit that must be carried includes at least 1 litre of fluids, waterproof top and bottoms, a hat or buff, sufficient food between checkpoints, a charged mobile phone, and a head torch (minimum 100 lumens). Failure to meet kit or support rules may lead to disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
