Tarctic Frozen Yeti

Westwood, United States • 6-7 Feb 2027

Trail Architecture and Conditions

The TARCtic Frozen Yeti takes place at Hale Education in Westwood, Massachusetts. The course is approximately 15 miles long and is comprised of three distinct loops, each roughly 5 miles in length. These loops are color-coded as Red, Blue, and White and all begin and end at Powissett Lodge. Participants navigate trails marked with pink surveyors ribbon, reflective tape, and directional arrows. The winter environment may include snow and ice, and organizers may adjust the final course length based on weather conditions.

Event Formats and Regulations

The event offers two primary distance options:

  • 15 miles
  • 30 hours

Participants in the 30 hour event must complete at least 30 miles to receive a finisher's item and a recorded distance. For safety during the final hours, organizers sequentially close loops 1 and 2, requiring all remaining runners to finish on loop 3. For the 30 hour distance, participants are encouraged to have a pacer after sunset or after reaching 60 miles.

Equipment and Safety

This is a winter event with strict gear requirements. All participants must carry a cell phone, two hats, two pairs of gloves, a wind-resistant shell, two emergency blankets, a whistle, and full-body clothing. Night runners must also carry a headlamp with backup batteries and a rear red blinking light. In extreme cold, additional gear such as a free-standing shelter and insulated jackets may be required. While trekking poles are permitted, snowshoes are not allowed on the course.

Logistics and Sustainability

The event operates as a cupless race. There are no disposable cups at aid stations, and runners must bring their own hydration systems. An aid station is located at Powissett Lodge and is accessible every 5 miles. Participants may utilize two drop bags at the lodge. Parking is available in various lots along Carby Street, though some lots require up to a 1.5 mile walk to the lodge. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
