Tails & Trails State Forest Run

Tails & Trails State Forest Run is a trail event held at Pittsfield State Park, Lulu Brook Parking Area, 1041 Cascade Street, Pittsfield, MA. The event offers three distance options:

  • 50K
  • 25K
  • 5 Miler

The course begins with a short paved section before entering single-track trails with rolling hills, rocks, and roots. The route passes Whirlpool Ravine, follows the "Beaver Tail" to Beaver Pond, and uses flowy mountain-bike-style trails through pine stands. The loop includes two aid stations, one at the start/finish area and one on Churchill Street. The final miles feature pine forest, large boulders, and some decorative stuffed animals placed in the woods.

Registration closes on May 10; runners who register by May 1 are guaranteed a T-shirt. Entry fees are listed as 50K $100, 25K $80, and the 5 Miler $50. All finishers will receive an award. There is a time cutoff requiring runners to begin their final lap within the event schedule.

Camping is available at campsites in Pittsfield State Forest with showers and bathrooms; participants must book campsites on the state's website.

The event is organized by the Berkshire Ultra Running Community for Service (BURCS), a 501(c)(3) formed in 2013. Race proceeds are mostly donated to regional nonprofits and the remainder supports race operations. The race supports three local animal rescue groups: Red Robin Song Animal Sanctuary, No Paws Left Behind, and Berkshire Bird Paradise.
