Tails & Trails State Forest Run

Tails & Trails State Forest Run takes place on May 16, 2026 at Pittsfield State Park, Lulu Brook Parking Area, 1041 Cascade St., Pittsfield, MA. The event offers multiple distances on a looped trail course.

Distances:

  • 50K
  • 25K
  • 5 Miler

Entry fees are listed per distance and registration closes on May 10. Registrants who register by May 1 are guaranteed a T-shirt; additional shirts may be available for later signups. All finishers receive an award of some kind. Time cutoffs on the course provide roughly 8 to 9 hours for completing the 50K. There are two aid stations on the loop, including a larger start/finish aid station.

The course begins with about 0.1 mile on the paved Circuit Road before entering single track and rolling hills with rocks and roots. The route passes Whirlpool Ravine, follows a section called Beaver Tail toward a Beaver Pond, and uses flowy mountain bike trails through aromatic pine stands to an aid station on Churchill Street. The final two miles of the loop feature more flow, pine trees, large boulders, and a few novelty stuffed animals placed along the trail.

The event supports three local animal rescue organizations: Red Robin Song Animal Sanctuary, No Paws Left Behind, and Berkshire Bird Paradise. Camping and shower facilities are available at campsites in Pittsfield State Forest; participants must book campsites through the state.
