Edge Hill Trail Race

Edge Hill Trail Race

The Edge Hill Trail Race offers multiple distances through the western Massachusetts hill towns, using trails that cross conserved properties. Distances include:

  • 50k
  • 30k
  • 10k

The race is in partnership with Franklin Land Trust and will use the Edge Hill Conservation Area, a former golf course purchased in fall 2023. The Land Trust plans to transform fairways into grassland and shrubland habitat and to restore altered wetlands in collaboration with state restoration and fish and game agencies. Runners pass through many properties the Land Trust helped conserve.

The course runs on a mix of single track trails and dirt roads with a few stretches of pavement. Elevation gain is significant: the 50k covers approximately 4,000 feet of climbing and the 30k about 3,100 feet. Aid stations are placed roughly every 3 to 5 miles; some 50k stations are unmanned and provide water only. Organizers may impose cutoffs at certain aid stations to encourage completion within about 9.5 hours, and early starts can be arranged for special cases.

Event logistics note that day of registration is possible at higher rates. Basic nutrition and hydration will be provided, including water, energy drink, soda, cookies, chips, pretzels and fruit. First aid will be available at the start and finish area. Participants must notify an official if stopping. The event includes an athletes with disabilities division and awards locally produced swag to top finishers in male and female categories for each distance.
