Wild Thing 5K/10K Race & Walk
Wild Thing is a trail race and walk held at Mass Audubon’s Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary and through Kennedy Park in the Berkshires. The event offers two course options that run through hardwood forest, single-track trails, and scenic carriage roads. Runners should expect uneven terrain and varying elevation.
Course details and on-course support include:
- 5K route through hardwood forest; one water station passed twice.
- 10K course with three water stations.
The finish area is at the big red barn, where food, music, and giveaway prizes from local businesses are provided. Top finishers receive awards and all participants receive race swag. Refillable water bottle stations are available at Pleasant Valley and finish-line refreshments include water, Gatorade, and light snacks. Accessible restrooms, including family and all-gender facilities, are located in the barn.
Spectators are welcome along the course and at the start and finish areas. On-leash dogs are allowed in Kennedy Park but are not permitted in the Pleasant Valley start and finish area. On-site parking is limited and race check-in takes place inside the big red barn.
Proceeds from the event support Mass Audubon’s environmental education and conservation work in Berkshire County. The event is held rain or shine, with schedule adjustments only for severe weather alerts and notifications shared on Facebook. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
