Swammie Shuffle 200
Swammie Shuffle 200 is a 200+ mile ultramarathon held in Virginia Beach, VA on February 28, 2027. The course begins at Sandbridge Beach, runs more than 100 miles south through the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, then returns to the start, making the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse the turnaround point.
The first and last roughly 20 miles follow the beach between Sandbridge Beach and Corolla. Between those beach sections the route runs on sidewalks and road shoulders through the Outer Banks. The course passes three lighthouses located in Corolla, Bodie Island, and Cape Hatteras. Wild horses are sometimes visible near Corolla. Entrants must observe refuge access rules and cannot be on the back bay refuge from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise.
Race support is the responsibility of each participant. The event does not provide aid along the route. Competitors may not ride in a moving vehicle or mark the course; a stationary vehicle may be used for brief stops. Volunteers will assist by picking up runners who are unable to continue. There are stretches of about 20 miles without stores, and sleep locations are chosen by each runner.
All funds raised are split between Awareness N Action and Mission22, charities focused on veteran suicide prevention and related support. There are 30 open spots for in person participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
