About the race
The Swammie Shuffle 200 is a fundraising ultramarathon held in Virginia Beach, VA on February 28, 2027. The event covers more than 200 miles on an out and back course that begins at Sandbridge Beach, runs south through the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, and returns to the start.
The course includes roughly the first and last 20 miles along beach terrain between Sandbridge Beach and Corolla, then continues on sidewalks and road shoulders through the Outer Banks. Runners pass three lighthouses on course : Corolla, Bodie Island, and Cape Hatteras, which serves as the turnaround point. Wild horses in the Corolla area may be visible along the route. The final miles before the finish run through a back bay refuge; participants may not be in the refuge from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise.
Support is the responsibility of each participant. The race does not provide general aid and moving-vehicle transport while running is prohibited; stopped vehicles may be used for brief support but participants may not be transported or mark the course. Volunteers are available to remove participants who cannot continue. Entrants are given five and a half days to complete the course. The in-person field is limited to 30 spots.
All funds raised are divided between Awareness N Action and Mission22, organizations focused on veteran support and suicide prevention. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
