Swammie Shuffle 200 - Virginia Beach to Cape Hatteras

The event is a fundraising ultramarathon based in Virginia Beach, VA, with a route of more than 200 miles. Runners start at Sandbridge Beach, proceed south through the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, then return to the start as an out-and-back course. The course passes three lighthouses in total: Corolla, Bodie Island, and Cape Hatteras. The first and last roughly 20 miles run along the beach between Sandbridge Beach and Corolla. Much of the middle section follows sidewalks and road shoulders through stretches where towns and stores can be about 20 miles apart. The last miles before the finish lie on beach within a back bay refuge where entry is restricted from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise.

Support and logistics are primarily the responsibility of participants. The race does not provide aid and does not permit riding in a moving vehicle or marking the course; a participant may occupy a stationary vehicle but may not ride in it while moving. Event volunteers can retrieve runners who are unable to continue. Sleep locations and timing are chosen by each runner.

The event honors a Marine veteran who died in 2020 and raises funds for organizations addressing veteran suicide and related issues. One hundred percent of funds are divided between Awareness N Action and Mission22. The in-person field is limited to 22 open spots and additional participants may be selected from a waitlist based on submitted statements. Registration closes on February 21.
