Swammie Shuffle 200
Virginia Beach, United States • 28 Feb 2027
Event overview
The Swammie Shuffle 200 is an ultramarathon fundraiser that follows a one-way out-and-back route beginning in Sandbridge Beach, Virginia Beach and extending more than 200 miles south through the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Runners reach the lighthouse and return to the start, passing three lighthouses along the course: Corolla, Bodie Island, and Cape Hatteras. The first and last segments run along beach terrain; much of the middle section follows sidewalks and road shoulders. Wild horses may be visible in the Corolla area.
Support on course is the responsibility of each participant. The event does not provide regular aid; organizers recommend having a support crew. Participants may not ride in a moving vehicle or use a vehicle to mark the course, though they may occupy a non-moving vehicle. Volunteers can pick up runners who are unable to continue. Runners choose where and when to sleep but must follow refuge access rules, including restrictions on being in the back bay refuge between 30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise. Entry is limited to 30 in-person spots.
All funds raised are distributed to Awareness N Action and Mission22, organizations focused on veteran suicide prevention and related veteran services. The event is presented as a way to raise awareness and direct resources to those programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
