15th Steppingley Step

The 15th Steppingley Step is a countryside walking event based at Barton-le-Clay Village Hall. Routes run mainly along field paths, tracks, woods and some roads through undulating countryside with views from the hills.

Distances offered include:

  • 12 miles (walkers only)
  • 18 miles
  • 26 miles

The event is open to walkers and runners on the 18 and 26 mile routes. Checkpoints are placed on each route: one on the 12 mile, two on the 18 mile and three on the 26 mile. Checkpoint opening and closing times will be strictly adhered to. Dogs are permitted but must be on leads, have appropriate liability insurance and are not allowed inside halls except assistance dogs.

Entries are online only. Entry opens 1 September 2026 and closes 13 November 2026. There are different fees for members and non‑members and under 18s enter free. No entries will be accepted on the day and entries are not transferable. Cancellation refunds incur a £2 administration fee if advised before 1 November 2026; after that date refunds will not be given unless a waiting list replacement is found.

Entrants must download and print their own route description; route descriptions will not be available at the venue. Recommended equipment includes a route description, compass, mug, waterproof clothing, waterproof covers for route materials, a small first aid kit and a mobile phone. GPX files and marked maps will be published before the event. Drinks, checkpoint snacks and a light finish meal are included in the entry fee with limited options for special diets. TrailFest at Salcey Forest on 28 June 2026 offers multiple distances from 10K to 50 km on mainly hard packed forest trails. The event uses cupless aid stations, has tiered entry fees, and mandatory cup rules for longer races.

A June 28th trail event at 3 Brewers Brewery in Hertfordshire offering 5 km and 10 km multi terrain laps, mostly off road, with a medal, pint cup and free drink for finishers plus live jazz and charity fundraising.

Silsoe Stride on 28 June 2026 features scenic 5K and 10K races plus children’s runs at Wrest Park. The event is organised by village volunteers and community groups with profits shared among local beneficiaries.

A 5 km off road run and walk at Therfield Heath in Royston on 28 June 2026, held over two laps to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust. Entry is limited and fees are listed for adults and children.
