Summer Solstice Fell Race - Dartmoor Fell Series

This event takes place on June 17 at Dartmoor Inn Merrivale (PL20 6ST) as part of the Dartmoor Fell Series. The senior race for runners aged 18 and over covers approximately 9.5 km. There are junior races with U9/U11 combined and U13/U15 combined categories; junior entries are handled on the day.

Entry is offered online when the entry site opens. If places remain, on-the-day registration is possible at registration and will be charged £10 in cash. Standard entry fees are around £4 to £5. Numbers are limited and entries are not transferable. Age-group categories are provided in 10 year increments.

Participants are expected to be competent at navigation in typical Dartmoor weather and to wear adequate clothing. The route will be waymarked in places to protect ground-nesting birds and to avoid the firing range. Organisers reserve the right to abandon or shorten the course in the event of bad weather.

Course features include a steep initial mile up to Middle Staple Tor, ridge running past Higher Staple and Roos Tor, a marshalled turn toward a stone wall corner and White Tor, a fast descent to a stream ford, a field crossing and a long runnable ascent back to Middle Staple, followed by a steep final descent to the finish. Toilet facilities, refreshments and car parking are available; participants are asked to bring their own water bottle. Parking is normally in a nearby farmer's field for a small donation to charity.
