Stort30 Ultra
The Stort30 is a 30 mile ultra marathon course situated on the border of Hertfordshire and Essex. The route follows the River Stort and Lee navigations, consisting of a 15 mile out and back layout. Participants run along scenic riverside trails, returning to the start along the same path.
The course is primarily flat and fast, featuring a mix of grassy trails, graded footpaths, and gravel paths. Only the first and last half-mile sections are on tarmac. While the terrain is generally firm, approximately 12 miles can become muddy and slippery in wet weather conditions. The route is marked with signage at every turn, and a digital route file is available for navigation.
Checkpoints are located approximately every five miles, providing water, squash, and various snacks, including vegan and gluten-free options. As a cupless event, runners must carry their own drinking vessel. The event has a total time limit of 8 hours, with a mandatory 4-hour cut-off at the 15-mile turnaround point.
Facilities at the Bishop's Stortford clubhouse include toilets, showers, changing rooms, and baggage storage. There is no on-site parking at the venue; participants may use the local train station car park, which is a 15-minute walk from the start.
