Stort30 Ultra
Bishop's Stortford, United Kingdom • 25 Oct 2026
Event
Stort30 is a 30-mile ultramarathon on the River Stort and Lee navigation, on the border of Hertfordshire and Essex. The event starts and finishes at Hockerill Sports and Social Club, Beldams Lane, Bishop's Stortford, CM23 5LG. The course is an out-and-back: run 15 miles out, then return along the same route.
Course and checkpoints
The route is mostly grassy trail and graded footpath, with the first half mile on footpath or tarmac and the last half mile on the return similarly on tarmac. The course is described as flat and mostly firm underfoot; if wet, about 12 miles of riverside trail can be muddy and slippery. Signage is placed before and after turns and a GPX file and written route description are available as backup. Checkpoints are spaced at roughly five-mile intervals and offer water, squash, basic sweets and snacks, and some vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free options; cross-contamination cannot be guaranteed. Specific checkpoint locations include 5.4 miles, 9.6 miles and the 15-mile turnaround.
Facilities, rules and entry
There are toilets, changing rooms, showers and baggage storage at the clubhouse. There is electronic timing with live results updates; there is no live tracking. Awards include trophies for the first three male and female finishers and a medal for finishers. Runners must carry their own drinking vessel because the event is cupless; foldable cups are sold at registration. Parking is not available at the clubhouse; drop off and pick up only. Entrants must be 18 or over. The organiser recommends prior experience (half marathon under 3 hours or marathon under 6.5 hours) to have a realistic chance of finishing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
