Event overview

Stort30 is a 30 mile ultramarathon held on 25 October 2026 on the border of Hertfordshire and Essex along the River Stort and Lee navigations. The course is an out-and-back of 15 miles each way. Trophies are awarded to the first three finishers of each sex and all finishers receive a race medal. Entrants must be 18 or over on race day.

Course and checkpoints

The route is mostly grassy trail and graded footpath with the first 0.5 mile on footpath or tarmac and the final 0.5 mile on the return. It is described as generally flat with a mix of graded gravel and riverside trail; in wet conditions about 12 miles can be muddy or slippery. Checkpoints are placed approximately every 5 miles and provide water, squash, basic sweets, snacks and some hot or savory items. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options may be available but cross-contamination cannot be guaranteed. Key checkpoint locations include Sheering Mill Lane (5.4 miles), Burnt Mill Lane (9.6 miles) and Rye House (turnaround, 15 miles).

Logistics, rules and entry

There is no parking at the clubhouse; participants are asked to use Bishop's Stortford station car park and walk (about 15 minutes). Clubhouse facilities include toilets, changing, showers and baggage storage.
