Stickle Grind 650

The Stickle Grind 650 is a vertical race located in Ambleside within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Organized by Lake District Sky Trails in partnership with the National Trust and Lanty Slees, the event takes place on 2.4 km of fully marked uphill trails. Participants must be 16 years of age or older to enter.

The course features approximately 650 m of vertical ascent, leading runners to the rocky summit of Harrison Stickle, one of the fells in the Lake District. The route begins in front of the Stickle Barn and follows the main footpath on the east side of Stickle Ghyll. During the ascent, participants encounter a short scramble and cross stepping stones to reach the path on the west side of the ghyll.

The climb continues past Stickle Tarn, where a manned checkpoint is available for energy supplies. From there, the trail follows the eastern flanks of Harrison Stickle to the finish line at the summit. Once the race is complete, participants descend via the same marked route.

The event is held as part of the Rab Scafell Skyrunning weekend. Participants receive a recycled papier-mâché wild flower seed medal. Following the race, the venue at Lanty Slees Stickle Barn provides live music for participants and spectators. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
