The Bowels of Fleetwith Fell Race is a unique 6km fell running event held at Honister Slate Mine in Borrowdale, Lake District. This challenging race features approximately 1500m of ascent and combines traditional mountain running with an extraordinary underground section. Competitors start at Honister Slate Mine, don helmets and headtorches, and race half a mile uphill before entering 1km of narrow, historic mine tunnels. After emerging, runners summit Fleetwith Pike (648m), traverse to Grey Knotts (697m), and descend back to the start. Open to participants aged 16 and over, the race offers a memorable blend of rugged terrain, stunning scenery, and an adventurous subterranean experience.
