Blencathra Fell Race

The Blencathra Fell Race is a category AM fell running event located in Mungrisdale. Organised by Eden Runners, the race serves as a counter in the 2026 English Fell Running Championships. The event follows a classic mountain route that requires specific outdoor skills and experience.

The race follows a single distance:

  • 13 km with 825 m of total ascent.

The course involves significant elevation changes, and the first ascent to the first checkpoint is partially marked. Participation is restricted to runners aged 18 or older. Due to the nature of the terrain, participants must possess navigation skills and competent mountain-craft. The event is designated for individuals who are confident in managing themselves on high fells in poor weather conditions.

Event registration and parking are located at Low Beckside Farm, situated on the left when approaching Mungrisdale village from the A66. The registration area provides number collection, kit checks, event administration, and toilet facilities. The race start is approximately a 10 to 15 minute walk from the registration area.

Registration follows a tiered system, beginning with guaranteed entries for designated English Championship runners. This is followed by a priority window for Fell Runners Association (FRA) members before opening to the general public. The total participant limit for the event is 400 runners.
