Starlight Challenge: Arlington 'Owler is a night trail running event on Saturday 14 March 2026 at National Trust Arlington Court, Arlington, near Barnstaple, Devon (EX31 4LP). Entries open 1 January 2026 and close 12 March 2026. The event has a Trail Running Association permit (No. 7809). Race headquarters use Arlington Court (what3words: standing.acoustics.vows).

Distances

  • 6 km - single loop, 120 m ascent, minimum age 14.
  • 12 km (ish) - two loops, maximum 240 m ascent, minimum age 17.

Each distance is limited to 100 entrants. For safety there is a cut-off for the 12 km option: the first 6 km loop must be completed in 50 minutes or less.

Entry fees, equipment and facilities

Entry fees are: affiliated £11 for 12 km and £10 for 6 km; unaffiliated £13 for 12 km and £12 for 6 km. A headtorch (ideally at least 300 lumens with ample battery life) and trail shoes are mandatory. Running with dogs is not permitted under UKA rules. A small part of the course crosses private land and that route cannot be replicated outside the event.

The National Trust has waived car parking fees for the race from registration onwards. The National Trust food and beverage trailer will be open before and after the event. The course will be fully marshaled and medical cover will be provided. Prizes will be awarded for first to third places in each race plus selected mystery spot prizes.
