Vale Coastal Trail Races

The Vale Coastal Trail Races take place on 11 April 2026 along the Vale of Glamorgan coastline, finishing at Ogmore-by-Sea Village Hall. The event offers multiple point to point trail distances that use the Wales Coast Path and local coastal trails.

  • 32.5 miles Vale Ultra, a point to point route along the full Vale of Glamorgan Coast Path.
  • 18.5 miles Vale Trail 18.5, joining the Ultra on the shoreline at Porthkerry.
  • 10 miles Vale Trail 10, following the final section of the longer routes.

The Ultra starts from Penarth Pier and the route remains almost entirely on trail, following clifftops and passing 19 beaches. The final miles run along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, which includes cliffs, rock formations, coves and rolling countryside. All races finish at Ogmore-by-Sea Village Hall.

An interactive map and GPS file are available for each distance. The Wales Coast Path is well signposted and the organisers provide marked maps, route notes and additional running markers at tricky junctions.

Manned checkpoints provide water, energy drinks and light food; provision varies by distance. The race is linear, so participants can arrange drop off or park at Ogmore-by-Sea Rivermouth Car Park and use event buses to reach the starts. Drop bags can be left at the start and transported to the finish.

The Ultra has a 10 hour time limit. Shorter races have time limits of around 7 hours 15 minutes; runners should allow time for checkpoint stops. A compulsory kit list must be carried and is provided by the organisers.

Entry fees stated are: Ultra £46, Trail 18.5 £36, Trail 10 £33, coach transport £10. Entry includes timed results, a finisher medal, first aid cover and event photographs. Space is limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
