Vale Coastal Races

Ogmore-by-Sea, United Kingdom • 24 Apr 2027

Vale Coastal Trail Races, 24 April 2027

The event offers three trail distances along the Vale of Glamorgan coastline:

  • Vale Ultra (32.5 miles): point-to-point along Vale of Glamorgan Coast Path.
  • Vale Trail 18.5 (18.5 miles): joins the ultra route on the shoreline.
  • Vale Trail 10 (10 miles): follows the final section of the longer routes.

The route follows the Wales Coast Path for its entire length and is almost entirely on trail, staying close to the sea and clifftops. Runners on the ultra pass 19 beaches, with the final 14 miles running along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, an area of cliffs, rock formations, coves and rolling countryside. All races converge for the final climb known locally as the 'Hill of Doom' and finish at Ogmore-by-Sea Village Hall overlooking the coast.

Navigation is self-led; the Coast Path is signposted and the event provides marked maps and detailed route notes. Extra markers are placed at tricky junctions. Interactive maps and GPS files are available for each distance.

There are 6 manned checkpoints on the ultra, 4 on the 18.5 race and 2 on the 10 mile race. Checkpoints supply water, energy drinks, squash and assorted snacks. A compulsory kit list must be carried at all times.

This is a linear race. Event buses run between Ogmore-by-Sea and the starts and there is car parking at Ogmore-by-Sea Rivermouth Car Park. Registration is required before the event and takes place either on the Friday in Cardiff or at Ogmore-by-Sea village hall. Time limits apply: ultra 10 hours, 18.5 miles 8 hours 15 minutes, 10 miles 8 hours. Entry places are limited for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
