Gower Coastal Trail Races 2027
The Gower Coastal Trail Races on 25th September 2027 offer three long-distance trail races around the Gower Peninsula using much of the Wales Coast Path. The event uses a mixture of coastal footpaths, cliff tops, dunes, soft trails and some inland sections around Swansea Bay and the Loughor Estuary.
Race options:
- Gower Ultra 50 50 miles circumnavigation starting at Mumbles Cricket Club
- Gower Ultra Bach 34 miles from Weobley Castle to Mumbles
- Gower Trail Marathon 26 miles from Rhossili to Mumbles
The course description notes a variety of terrain including fast flat stretches around Swansea Bay, woodland and old railway cycle path to Gowerton, coastal trails past Llanrhidian, long cross of Rhossili Bay, steep cliff climbs with views to Worm’s Head, and coastal sections through Port Eynon, Oxwich, Three Cliffs, Caswell and Langland finishing near Rams Tor.
Navigation and support are described as follows: the route mainly follows clearly signposted Wales Coast Path markers, with extra arrows, flags or marshals at tricky points. Runners are expected to self-navigate using a GPS trace, the route map and path signs. Manned checkpoints provide refreshments such as water, energy drinks, hot drinks, snacks and soup. There is a compulsory kit list that must be carried regardless of the forecast. Time limits apply to each race and all courses close at 2300.
