The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail 2027

The event takes place on Saturday 1 May 2027 at Caffyns Farm, Lynton, within Exmoor National Park. Routes follow coastal paths including sections of the South West Coast Path, then move inland through valleys, ancient woodland and moorland. Notable landscape features on the routes include sea cliffs, the Valley of Rocks, fast flowing rivers and waterfalls.

There are five route options with documented elevation gains and GPX files provided for each:

  • 50k Ultra - 56 km, +2774 m elevation
  • Marathon - 42 km, +2223 m elevation
  • Half Marathon - 21 km, +1128 m elevation
  • Middle - 15 km, +803 m elevation
  • Short - 5 km, +207 m elevation

Terrain is technical with steep climbs and descents, requiring appropriate preparation. The 50k Ultra and Marathon have mandatory safety kit requirements including a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, 800 calories of food, at least 1 litre of water, a foil blanket, whistle and a reusable cup. Outposts provide snacks, gels and electrolyte drink and the event aims to operate cup free, so participants should bring a cup or bottle to refill.

Facilities listed for the event include free parking, fully marked and timed courses, precision fuel and hydration outposts, bag drop, event photography, online results and a metal finisher medal. Camping at Caffyns Farm is available for an extended weekend stay. A portion of entry fees is donated to CareMoor to support the park.
