The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail
The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail on 1 May 2027 is a trail running event based at Caffyns Farm, Lynton, inside Exmoor National Park. The routes combine exposed coastal paths and inland moorland with sections of ancient woodland, rivers and waterfalls. The course uses stretches of the South West Coast Path and passes through the Valley of Rocks.
Terrain includes steep climbs, technical descents and rugged surfaces, with sea cliffs, remote valleys and open moorland. Outposts along the longer routes provide sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink. The event aims to run outposts cup-free; runners are asked to carry a cup or bottle for refills.
Five route options are offered:
- 50k Ultra: 56 km, +2774 m
- Marathon: 42 km, +2223 m
- Half Marathon: 21 km, +1128 m
- Middle: 15 km, +803 m
- Short: 5 km, +207 m
Services at the venue include free parking, bag drop, fully marked and timed courses, online results, event photography and a metal finishers medal. The Ultra route features GPS tracking. Organisers work with Exmoor National Park and donate part of entry fees to CareMoor. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules.
Mandatory items are required for the 50k Ultra and Marathon; organisers also recommend that all runners carry at least one litre of water, a waterproof jacket, a foil blanket and a mobile phone. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
