The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail 2027

The event takes place on 1 May 2027 at Caffyns Farm, Lynton, inside Exmoor National Park. Routes follow the South West Coast Path and inland trails, passing sea cliffs, the Valley of Rocks, ancient woodland, rivers, waterfalls and open moorland.

Five route options are available:

  • 50k Ultra: 56 km, +2774 m elevation
  • Marathon: 42 km, +2223 m elevation
  • Half Marathon: 21 km, +1128 m elevation
  • Middle: 15 km, +803 m elevation
  • Short: 5 km, +207 m elevation

Terrain is technical with long, steep climbs and technical descents; the routes require appropriate preparation. Cut off points are in place to allow completion in about 10 hours for the Ultra and about 9 hours 30 minutes for the Marathon and are used for participant safety.

Outposts provide a range of sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink and the event aims to be cup free so participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle. Mandatory kit for the Ultra and Marathon includes a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, at least 1 litre of water, 800 calories of food, a self adhesive bandage, whistle and a foil blanket, plus a GPX copy of the route.

Facilities include free parking, a fully marked course, timing and results, event photography, bag drop, medals and food and drink. Camping is available onsite at Caffyns Farm. A portion of every entry fee is donated to CareMoor. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
