The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail 2026

The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail takes place on Saturday 2 May 2026 at Caffyns Farm, Lynton, within Exmoor National Park in Devon. Routes use sections of the South West Coast Path and inland trails that pass through moorland, cliffs and forested valleys.

Five route options are available:

  • 56 km 50k Ultra, +2774 m elevation
  • 42 km Marathon, +2223 m elevation
  • 21 km Half Marathon, +1128 m elevation
  • 15 km Middle, +803 m elevation
  • 5 km Short, +207 m elevation

The coastal sections include towering cliffs, sea views across to South Wales and the Valley of Rocks, an area noted for feral goats. Inland sections follow river valleys and include forested trails and waterfalls.

Outposts are positioned on most routes as top-up stations offering fruit, cake, savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink. There will be no pre-filled water cups; participants should carry a reusable cup or bottle. The event promotes a plastic-free approach and speed cups are available for purchase.

Mandatory or strongly recommended kit is listed for longer routes. Organisers recommend carrying at least 1 litre of water, a waterproof jacket, a foil blanket and a mobile phone; specific mandatory items apply to the 50k Ultra and Marathon. Facilities at the venue include free parking, a fully marked course, timing and online results, event photography, bag drop and a finishers medal. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
