The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail 2026
The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail is a trail running event held at Caffyns Farm, Lynton, in Exmoor National Park, Devon. Routes run along the South West Coast Path and inland through moorland and forest. Runners pass towering cliffs, seabird nesting areas, the Valley of Rocks known for feral goats, rivers and waterfalls.
There are five route options:
- 50k Ultra - 56 km, +2774 m
- Marathon - 42 km, +2223 m
- Half Marathon - 21 km, +1128 m
- Middle - 15 km, +803 m
- Short - 5 km, +207 m
Outposts vary by route: the Ultra has five outposts, the Marathon four, the Half Marathon two, the Middle one and the Short none. Outposts provide top up food items, gels and electrolyte drink. There are no pre filled water cups at outposts; runners should bring a reusable cup or bottle and use self serve water barrels.
A portion of entry fees is donated to park conservation work. Event services include free parking, a fully marked course, timing and online results, event photography and a metal finisher medal. The Ultra route has GPS tracking. Transfers between events can be made once per entry. For safety, the organisers list mandatory kit for the 50k Ultra and Marathon, including waterproof jacket, mobile phone, minimum water and emergency items.
