The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail 2027
The event takes place at Caffyns Farm, Lynton, inside Exmoor National Park. Routes use coastal and inland terrain, including sections of the South West Coast Path, towering sea cliffs with views across the Bristol Channel, the Valley of Rocks, ancient woodland, rivers, waterfalls and open moorland. The course terrain includes technical sections, long steep climbs and steep descents, and consistently rugged underfoot surfaces.
There are five route options with published distance and elevation figures:
- 50k Ultra: 56 km, +2774 m
- Marathon: 42 km, +2223 m
- Half Marathon: 21 km, +1128 m
- Middle: 15 km, +803 m
- Short: 5 km, +207 m
Outposts provide a range of sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink; the event aims to be cup free so participants should bring a refill cup or bottle. Cutoff arrangements apply to the Ultra and Marathon to allow completion in approximately 10 hours for the Ultra and 9.5 hours for the Marathon. The Ultra and Marathon routes require specific mandatory kit including a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, minimum 1 litre of water, 800 calories of food, whistle, foil blanket and a GPX of the route.
Facilities listed for the event include free parking, a fully marked and timed course, online results, event photography, bag drop, a metal finisher medal and GPS tracking on the Ultra route. The organiser works with the Exmoor National Park team and donates a portion of entries to CareMoor. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules.
