The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail 2027

The event takes place on Saturday 1 May 2027 at Caffyns Farm in Lynton, Devon, inside Exmoor National Park. Routes run along the South West Coast Path and also travel inland through valleys, ancient woodland and moorland.

The course includes towering sea cliffs, coastal views over the Bristol Channel, the Valley of Rocks, fast flowing rivers and waterfalls. Terrain is technical with long, steep climbs and steep descents across rocky and exposed ground. Several route options pass through remote sections where self-sufficiency is important.

Available route options:

  • 56 km 50k Ultra (+2774 m)
  • 42 km Marathon (+2223 m)
  • 21 km Half Marathon (+1128 m)
  • 15 km Middle (+803 m)
  • 5 km Short (+207 m)

The event provides fully marked and timed courses, outposts with snacks, gels and electrolyte drink, online results and event photography. Organisers aim to keep outposts cup free so runners should bring a reusable cup or bottle. There is free parking at the venue and onsite camping is available. A portion of each entry fee is donated to CareMoor to support protection and maintenance of the landscape.

Mandatory kit for the 50k Ultra and Marathon includes a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, at least 800 calories, minimum 1 litre water, self adhesive bandage, whistle, foil blanket, hat or buff, a reusable cup and a GPX of the route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
