The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail 2027
The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail takes place on Saturday 1 May 2027 at Caffyns Farm, Lynton, within Exmoor National Park. Routes follow coastal and inland paths including sections of the South West Coast Path and the Valley of Rocks, and cross moorland, ancient woodland, river valleys and sea cliffs.
Terrain is varied and demands careful footing: steep climbs and descents, technical sections and exposed coastal stretches are part of the course. Outposts along the routes offer sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drinks; the organiser aims to keep outposts cup-free so runners should bring a cup or bottle to refill.
There are five route options:
- 50k Ultra - 56 km, +2774 m
- Marathon - 42 km, +2223 m
- Half Marathon - 21 km, +1128 m
- Middle - 15 km, +803 m
- Short - 5 km, +207 m
The event provides free parking, a fully marked and timed course, online results, bag drop, event photography and medals. The Ultra route has GPS tracking. The 50k Ultra and Marathon routes include mandatory kit requirements such as a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, at least 1 litre of water, a foil blanket and a whistle. Cutoff points are in place for the Ultra and Marathon for participant safety.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules. A portion of each entry fee is donated to CareMoor to support Exmoor conservation. The event is dog friendly with limited dog spaces and onsite camping is available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
