The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail 2027

The event takes place on Saturday 1 May 2027 at Caffyns Farm, Lynton, inside Exmoor National Park. It offers five route options across coastal and inland terrain, with distances and elevation gains ranging from short to ultra.

Routes

  • 50k Ultra: 56 km, +2774 m
  • Marathon: 42 km, +2223 m
  • Half Marathon: 21 km, +1128 m
  • Middle: 15 km, +803 m
  • Short: 5 km, +207 m

Routes start near the South West Coast Path and include towering sea cliffs, broad views across the Bristol Channel toward South Wales, and the Valley of Rocks. The courses also pass inland sections of fast flowing rivers, ancient woodland, waterfalls tucked in valleys, and open moorland. Terrain includes long steep climbs, technical descents and varied surfaces that require careful preparation.

Outposts provide sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink. The event aims to be cup free at outposts so participants should bring a cup or bottle to refill. Free parking, a fully marked and timed course, online results, event photography, bag drop and a metal finisher medal are provided. Ultra entrants have GPS tracking for the route.

Mandatory kit is specified for the 50k Ultra and Marathon and includes items such as a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, 800 calories of food, at least 1 litre of water, a whistle, foil blanket and a re-usable cup. A portion of each entry is donated to CareMoor to support the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
