The Doone Run

The Doone Run is a trail race set in the Doone Valley on Exmoor, organised by Ilfracombe Running Club. The 37th edition will take place on 20 September 2026 and it is the fourth year since the club restarted the event. The race has run for over 30 years.

The route follows the traditional course through valley and coastal terrain and is noted for its scenery and significant climbs. The distance is 16 km / 10 miles. The course description mentions rough ground, hills and grazing goats as likely features along the way.

Key entry and event details: entries open 1st May; entrants must be at least 16 years old; the field is limited to 250 participants; entry fee is £20 with a £2 discount for members of UK Athletics clubs. Chip timing will be used and live results will be available as runners cross the line. For safety there is a cut off at the 5 mile point at The Olde Cottage Inn: runners must reach that marshal point within 1 hour 20 minutes or they will be withdrawn from the race.

Permissions for the event include the National Trust and Lee Abbey. The club lists sponsorship support from local businesses and will make a donation from proceeds to the charity Chemohero. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
