Barney to Beach: 20 Years of Hope

Barney to Beach is a point-to-point event in North Devon that travels from the town of Barnstaple to the coast at Crow Point. The 2026 edition marks the 20th anniversary of the organizing charity, Families in Grief. The route follows the Tarka Trail and includes a section through the sand dunes near the finish line.

Participants can choose between two different distances:

  • 8 miles: The full course from Barnstaple Pannier Market to Crow Point.
  • 1 mile: A children's fun run located at the dunes toward the beach.

The 8 mile course is open to individuals and teams. Walkers are also welcome to participate in this distance. Participants may bring dogs if they are walking the course, but dogs are not permitted with runners. Due to the natural terrain and the sand dunes, the course is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

The event provides a coach transport service for participants. Runners and walkers can choose to park at Sandy Lane and take a coach to the start in Barnstaple, or park in Barnstaple and take a coach back from the finish. An event village is located five minutes from the finish line, featuring live music, refreshments, and entertainment. All finishers receive a medal.
