Barney to Beach: 20 Years of Hope

Barney to Beach returns for 2026 as a community running event that marks two decades of Families in Grief. The route follows the established course from Barnstaple Pannier Market to Crow Point, covering eight miles along sections of the Tarka Trail and finishing across the dunes.

Distances on offer:

  • 8 miles full course from Barnstaple Pannier Market to Crow Point
  • 1 mile children's race for ages 5 to 15

The event includes options for families. Under 16s may take part on a Family Ticket alongside a parent or carer for the full course, or they can enter the one mile fun run which finishes on the beach. Children can register on the day at Crow Point Car Park for the fun run.

An event village near the finish will provide live music, refreshments, children's entertainment and other activities. All finishers receive a medal. Walkers are welcome and dogs may join only if walking the course. Organisers note the course is unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs because of the terrain.

Practical details include parking and coach options between Sandy Lane and Barnstaple, a small toll for Crow Point parking, and a stated fundraising aim of £20,000 for Families in Grief. Entry fees are shown as £26.50 for an individual eight mile entry, £25.00 per person for teams of four or more, and £7.50 for the children's race.
