Barney to Beach: 20 Years of Hope

Barney to Beach is an annual community running event that follows an eight mile route from Barnstaple Pannier Market to Crow Point along the Tarka Trail, finishing across dunes near the beach. The 2026 edition marks a celebration of twenty years of Families in Grief and is linked to a fundraising campaign aiming to raise £20,000 for the charity.

The event offers two course options:

  • 8 miles full course
  • 1 mile children's race

The children's race has age restrictions and the organiser lists a children's course age range. Under 16s may also take part on a Family Ticket with a parent or carer on the full course. A medal is provided to all finishers.

Entry fees are set as follows: 8 miles individual £26.50; 8 miles team of 4+ £25.00 per person; children's race £7.50. Teams that commit to a minimum fundraising target may be eligible for fee waivers under the campaign terms.

An event village near the finish will include live music, refreshments and children's entertainment. Transport arrangements include options for parking at Sandy Lane with coach transfers, or parking in Barnstaple with coach return; participants indicate preferences when registering. The course terrain makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Dogs are welcome only for those walking the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
