Summer Canal Canter
The Summer Canal Canter is a set of out-and-back races held in Tiverton, Devon, on the Grand Western Canal Path. All routes are entirely on the canal path and follow hard packed gravel surfaces, finishing at the Canal Basin.
The event includes three distances and uses the canal towpath for the full route. The Half Marathon starts at Tiverton Canal Basin and runs 6.6 miles along the canal to Sampford Peverell before turning back to the finish at the basin. The 10k turns just past Tiverton Bridge car park and a marshal is stationed at the turnaround. The course has about 90 ft of ascent in the Half Marathon and slightly less in the 10k.
All finishers receive a bespoke Summer Canal Canter medal with a new design each year. The event donates 50% of its profits to The Friends of The Grand Western Canal.
Age and entry conditions are specified: runners must be over 18 for the Half Marathon, over 16 for the 10k, and any age may enter the 5k though children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
