St Edmund Way Ultra

The St Edmund Way Ultra is a new ultramarathon scheduled for December 5, 2026. The planned route covers approximately 80 miles through Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. Organisers note that many details remain subject to final confirmation.

The event format includes multiple checkpoints with approximate distances: CP1 about 17 miles, CP2 about 28 miles, CP3 about 45 miles and CP4 about 63 miles. The overall finish cut off is set at 28 hours. Start and specific checkpoint locations are listed as provisional, with Manningtree named as the planned start and Brandon named as the planned finish.

Safety and tracking are part of the event plan. Live tracking will be provided by Open Tracking and will include an emergency SOS function. A GPX file, route marking and signage are mentioned as part of the route information; parking and other facilities are to be confirmed.

There is a mandatory kit list intended to ensure runner safety. Required items include the ability to carry at least 1 litre of fluids, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a headtorch of at least 100 lumens with enough battery for a full night, a fully charged mobile phone, a spare long sleeve base layer, a survival bag or foil bivvy, a minimum of 1000 calories of food from the start, a warm hat, gloves, and maps or a GPS device.

An evening marathon that follows canals, waterfalls, vineyards, woodland and coastal saltmarshes, running from early evening into the night. Registration for the 2026 edition is closed.

A backyard ultra at High Lodge Thetford Forest where runners complete a 4.167 miles loop each hour until one person remains. 6 and 12 hour timed options are available; the open event uses chip timing and offers a £500 prize.

A multi-distance event around the village of Ousden in Suffolk, based at the Suffolk Running Centre. Options range from 5k to ultra with aid stations every 10k, on-site parking and a bespoke finisher medal.

A trail event at Colemans Fishery in Rivenhall on 14 Jun 2026 offering two route choices of about 6.5 or 4.2 miles. Entry fees are non-refundable and proceeds go to Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust.
