Challenge Running Ltd is organising the St Edmund Way Ultra on 5 December 2026. The event is a winter, 80 mile point-to-point ultra running route through Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. The planned start location is Manningtree (TBC) and the planned finish is Brandon (TBC). The race is a new event for 2026. Event details are still being finalised and may be revised.

Entry, cut-offs and pricing

Entries are open now and close two weeks before the race date. The transfer/deferal cut-off is four weeks before the race. There is a 28-hour finish cut-off. Checkpoint cut-offs are published as approximate distances:

  • CP1 - approx 17 miles
  • CP2 - approx 28 miles
  • CP3 - approx 45 miles
  • CP4 - approx 63 miles

A dynamic pricing scheme applies: the first 25 entrants pay £80, the next 25 pay £100, and later entries pay £120. Open to entrants aged 18 and over on 05/12/2026.

Logistics and safety

Live tracking will be provided by Open Tracking and includes an emergency SOS function. A mandatory kit list is required; key items include the ability to carry at least 1 litre of fluids, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a headtorch rated to a minimum of 100 lumens with enough battery for one full night (10-12 hours), a fully charged mobile phone at the start, a spare long-sleeve base layer, a survival bag or foil bivvy, at least 1000 calories of food from the start, a warm hat, gloves, and maps or a GPS device.
