Event Overview

The St Edmund Way Ultra is a new event for 2026. It is an 80-mile winter race taking place in December. The route travels through the counties of Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk.

Logistics

The event date is scheduled for December 5th, 2026. The planned start time is 10:00, with registration opening two hours prior. A bus will transport participants from the finish to the start area between 7:00 and 7:30 on race morning. The overall finish cut-off time is 28 hours.

The provisional start location is Manningtree, and the provisional finish location is Brandon. Details for checkpoints and other locations are still to be confirmed.

Kit Requirements

There is a mandatory kit list. Required items include:

  • The ability to carry at least 1 litre of fluids.
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams.
  • A headtorch with at least 100 lumens and battery life for 10-12 hours.
  • A fully charged mobile phone.
  • A spare long sleeve base layer, an emergency survival bag, a warm hat, and gloves.
  • A minimum of 1000 calories of food.
  • Maps of the route or a GPS device.

Entry Information

Entry is open. The entry system uses dynamic pricing. The first 25 entrants pay £80, the next 25 pay £100, and the remaining entries cost £120. Entries close two weeks before the race date.

Trail runs nearby

The Mersea Mix is a 7-mile self-navigation trail race on Mersea Island. Runners follow a written description on an unmarked course, starting at individual times. Entry includes a voucher for the venue's bar.

A self navigation trail at The Museum of Power offering 6.3 or 3.4 miles on mainly off road footpaths and tracks. There are no markings or marshalls and each entrant receives a narrative and a cafe voucher.

The Wivenhoe 5 Mile Trail Run follows a reversed version of a classic local route. A head torch and phone are required for this evening event starting from The Black Buoy pub. Finish your run by trading your number for a drink at the bar.
