St Edmund Way Ultra

St Edmund Way Ultra is a new winter ultramarathon scheduled for 5 December 2026. The route covers approximately 80 mile across Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. Organisers note that many event details are still being finalised and published information is subject to revision.

The planned route starts in Manningtree (TBC) and finishes in Brandon (TBC). There are four intermediate checkpoints with approximate distances: CP1 about 17 miles, CP2 about 28 miles, CP3 about 45 miles and CP4 about 63 miles. The overall finish cut-off is 28 hours. Route marking, signage, parking and some facilities are still to be confirmed and a GPX file is listed as part of the route information.

Live tracking will be provided by the partner Open Tracking and will include a way to follow runners and an emergency SOS function. Tracker details will be shared before the race.

A mandatory kit list is specified to improve safety. Required items include the ability to carry at least 1 litre of fluids, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a headtorch rated at a minimum of 100 lumens with sufficient batteries for a full night, a fully charged mobile phone at the start, a spare long sleeve base layer, a survival bag or foil emergency bivvy, at least 1000 calories of food from the start, a warm hat, gloves, and route maps or a GPS device.

Entry follows a dynamic pricing scheme: the first 25 entrants pay £80, the next 25 pay £100, and remaining entries pay £120. Entries open now, entries close two weeks before the race, and transfer or deferral cut-off is four weeks before the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
