Spring in Lakeland takes place on Sunday, 12 April 2026. The event starts from Ambleside Parish Centre in Ambleside, Cumbria.

Route Description

The course is 24 miles long with 4400 feet of ascent. It follows a scenic route via Loughrigg Tarn, Skelwith Bridge, High Tilberthwaite, Coniston, and Tarn Hows, before returning to Ambleside using the Cumbria Way.

Participation

The event is open to both runners and walkers. Participants must be at least 14 years old.

Requirements and Logistics

Navigational skills are required, and the use of maps OL 6&7 is specified. All entrants must carry a route description, these maps, a compass, a whistle, emergency food and drink, and waterproof and windproof upper clothing and trousers.

Limited catering is available at the Coniston checkpoint and at the finish, with details subject to confirmation. Parking is in public car parks in Ambleside, where charges apply. Dogs are not allowed due to the lambing season in the area. Every participant must bring their own mug.

The event is currently full, so all new entries are placed on a waiting list. Entry fees are £12.00 for LDWA members and £18.00 for non-members. A winter league fell race at Birkrigg Common in Ulverston featuring a 5 km course with 170 m climb. The route is fully flagged and covered by an FRA permit; entries are available in advance or on the day and specific kit is required.
