Spring Creek Memorial Trail Run
This trail race is held in memory of a community member who was killed by a truck along the lower part of the trail in 1991. The event takes place on the Spring Creek trail near the gazebo on Spring Creek Road and is set among aspen trees and wildflowers alongside Spring Creek.
Distances:
- 9.5 mile loop on primitive trail with rocky single track and two track.
- 5K out and back on rolling two track and single track.
The 9.5 mile course gains about 1,750 ft in the first 4 miles, climbing mainly between mile 2 and mile 4, then descends on a smoother rolling downhill. The loop follows the old stage route to Buffalo Pass and Dry Lake, and returns via the Spring Creek trail; there are about a dozen stream crossings over bridges. The route includes narrow, unimproved single track and several large downed trees.
Logistics note that there will be only one fully stocked aid station for the 9.5 mile race at about 4 miles; the 5K has no aid station but will have a volunteer at the turnaround. The event is cupless and participants are encouraged to use hand held bottles or hydration packs. Walkers are welcome on the 5K only; walkers are not permitted on the 9.5 mile course. Pets are not allowed on the 9.5 mile course due to tight primitive trail on private land.
Parking is limited, reservoir parking is not permitted, and participants may need to park and walk about 0.4 miles to the start. Entry is limited by a U.S. Forest Service cap. Awards are given to the top three men and top three women and every participant is entered in a prize raffle. T shirts are available for an additional fee and are not guaranteed after July 11. No refunds are offered; proceeds benefit local non profit organizations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
