Spring Creek Memorial Trail Run
The Spring Creek Memorial Trail Run takes place Saturday, July 18, 2026 near the gazebo on the Spring Creek Trail in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The event is held in memory of a person who was struck and killed by a truck along the lower part of the trail in 1991 and emphasizes the importance of sharing multi purpose trails.
Distances:
- 9.5 mile loop on primitive trail, two track, single track, and forest service road
- 5k out and back on rolling two track and single track
The 9.5 mile course gains approximately 1,750 ft in the first 4 miles, with most climbing between mile 2 and mile 4. That section follows unimproved rocky and narrow single track and crosses several large downed trees before descending on a smoother, rolling downhill trail. The loop route returns to the Spring Creek Reservoir and includes at least a dozen stream crossings over bridges. The 5k follows the Spring Creek trail out and back.
Due to trail location there is one fully stocked aid station for the 9.5 mile race near the Dry Lake parking area at about 4 miles. The 5k has no aid station but a volunteer will be stationed at the turnaround. The race is cupless, including at the start and finish, and handheld bottles or hydration packs are encouraged. Walkers are welcome on the 5k but not on the 9.5 mile course. Pets are not allowed in the 9.5 mile race because of tight primitive trail on private land.
Parking is limited. Parking at the reservoir area is not permitted so participants must park and walk about 0.4 miles to the start. High school parking is encouraged when available. Awards for first, second and third place males and females are presented after the race and every participant is entered in a prize raffle. Post race food will be provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
