Emerald Mountain Epic - Event overview

The Emerald Mountain Epic is a two-day mountain bike and trail running event in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, held August 8 and 9, 2026. The event uses primarily singletrack trails on dirt surfaces and includes significant elevation gain across its courses.

Racing begins at the Howelsen Hill Ski Area and extends into Routt County backcountry. Courses pass through open meadows, aspen forests, and sage gardens. The full mountain bike route is composed of two 26.2 mile loops; the full marathon follows one of those loops. The half marathon omits Ridge Trail, Cow Creek, and Beall Trail.

Field size is limited to 500 racers per day under past permits; there is no specific per-category limit. Race-day support includes stocked aid stations, on-course trail crew, a vendor area at the finish, post-race food and beverages, and a finisher award for those who complete their race. Proceeds benefit local nonprofits Partners for Youth and Routt County Riders.
