The Emerald Mountain Epic is a two-day trail race held in Steamboat Springs. It features mountain biking on August 8 and trail running on August 9. The event is a fundraiser for two local nonprofits: Routt County Riders and Partners for Youth.

Race Details

The mountain bike event on Saturday includes a 52-mile solo race and a 26-mile duo relay. The trail running event on Sunday includes a full marathon (26.2 miles) and a half marathon (13.1 miles). There is also a "Duo Marathon" where teams of two each run a half marathon course simultaneously. Special combined categories ("King/Queen/Prince/Princess of the Boat") award participants who compete in both the mountain bike and running events.

Course and Terrain

The course is approximately 90% single track and 100% dirt, featuring major elevation gains. It starts at the Howelsen Hill Ski Area and travels through open meadows, aspen forests, and wild sage gardens, offering views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The marathon running course is identical to one lap of the mountain bike course.
