Emerald Mountain Epic
Steamboat Springs, United States • 8-9 Aug 2026
Event Overview
The Emerald Mountain Epic is a two-day trail race held in Steamboat Springs. It features mountain biking on August 8 and trail running on August 9. The event is a fundraiser for two local nonprofits: Routt County Riders and Partners for Youth.
Race Details
The mountain bike event on Saturday includes a 52-mile solo race and a 26-mile duo relay. The trail running event on Sunday includes a full marathon (26.2 miles) and a half marathon (13.1 miles). There is also a "Duo Marathon" where teams of two each run a half marathon course simultaneously. Special combined categories ("King/Queen/Prince/Princess of the Boat") award participants who compete in both the mountain bike and running events.
Course and Terrain
The course is approximately 90% single track and 100% dirt, featuring major elevation gains. It starts at the Howelsen Hill Ski Area and travels through open meadows, aspen forests, and wild sage gardens, offering views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The marathon running course is identical to one lap of the mountain bike course.
Participant Information
The field is limited to 500 racers per day. Registration is open for the 2026 event scheduled for August 8th and 9th. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
