Emerald Mountain Epic
Steamboat Springs, United States • 8-9 Aug 2026
Event overview
The Emerald Mountain Epic is a two-day trail event in Steamboat Springs for mountain bikers and trail runners. The race is held on public lands under a special permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The organizers limit the field to 500 racers per day to reduce impacts on the trail system. Proceeds benefit Routt County Riders and Partners For Youth.
Race categories and distances
- 52 miles solo mountain bike (approximately 6,600 feet elevation gain)
- 26 miles per rider in Duo mountain bike relay (about 3,300 feet gain)
- 26.2 miles full trail marathon (about 3,300 feet elevation gain)
- 13.1 miles half trail marathon (about 1,500 feet elevation gain)
Categories include pro/open, citizen, singlespeed, junior, team, and combined-day awards that add a rider’s and runner’s times.
Course and race services
The courses start at Howelsen Hill Ski Area and travel into Routt County backcountry through open meadows, aspen forests, and sage gardens. The full marathon course follows one lap of the mountain bike course; the half marathon omits Ridge Trail, Cow Creek, and Beall Trail. Organizers state the routes are roughly 90% singletrack and 100% dirt. On-course services include stocked aid stations, trail crew support, a vendor area at the finish, and post-race food and beverages. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
