10k at 10,000 Feet

The event takes place Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the summit of the old Rabbit Ears Pass Road, Monument Parking lot in Steamboat Springs, CO. It is a trail run that begins at about 10,000 ft at the summit of Rabbit Ears Pass.

The course starts by heading uphill on USFS dirt roads and two-track, then turns downhill onto single-track and finishes on cross-country single-track. The total elevation gain and loss are each about 1,200 feet. The race was voted best 10k in the state of Colorado by Colorado Runner Magazine in 2010.

Although the race is listed as a 10k, the actual course distance measures about 6.8 miles. There will be one aid station on the course at roughly 3.4 miles for the 10k; the 5k option does not have an aid station. Organizers strongly recommend that participants bring their own water.
