Spelga Skyline

The Spelga Skyline is a mountain running event located in County Down. Organized by the Belfast Association of Rock Climbers and Fellrunners (BARF), the race is part of the NIMRA Championships (Long Distance) and the NIMRA League. The course traverses mountain terrain with marking only provided at major junctions. The use of GPS devices for navigation is not permitted during the event.

Participants can choose between two course distances:

  • 21.50 km with 1650 m of climb
  • 10.50 km (Short Course)

Safety requirements for the event are strict, following Level C Advanced mandatory kit rules. All runners must carry a waterproof jacket with an integrated hood and taped seams, waterproof full leg cover, a hat or buff, and gloves. Additional required safety equipment includes a whistle, a foil blanket or bivvy bag, a map of the route or area, and a compass.

Furthermore, participants are required to carry a charged mobile phone with the emergency number stored, emergency food, and a means to carry at least 500 mL of water.
