Flagstaff to Carlingford Mountain Race

This is a mountain race organised by Armagh AC on Sunday 21 June 2026 that covers approximately 16.7 km with about 1,050 m of ascent. The route is not waymarked and GPS devices are not permitted, so navigation and local knowledge are required.

The course runs over upland terrain and passes a series of named checkpoints and summits, including Anglesey Mountain, Clermont, Black Mountain, Carnawaddy Mountain cairn, Windy Gap and Slieve Foye, finishing in Carlingford main street. Event difficulty is rated as category 9 with difficult terrain, more than 500 m ascent and a distance over 10 km.

A Level C kit requirement applies and must be carried; examples include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, full waterproof leg cover, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number, foil blanket or bivvy, minimum 500 mL water, emergency food, route map and compass. The race director will undertake a mandatory kit check before boarding the coach to the start and random checks may be carried out. Failure to have required items can result in denied entry or disqualification.

There is a free coach transfer to the start for the first 70 registered athletes. Entries on the day are not accepted and the minimum age for entry is 17 years. Prizegiving and refreshments are held afterwards at The Foy Centre in Carlingford. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
