Event Details

The Flagstaff to Carlingford race is scheduled for Sunday, 21st June 2026, in County Louth. It is a mountain running event covering a distance of 16.70 km with 1050 m of total climb. The terrain is considered difficult. The route is not marked, and the use of GPS devices is not permitted. The event is part of the IMRA Leinster Championship.

Mandatory Kit

All participants must bring a specific set of equipment to the event. The required Level C (Advanced) kit includes:

  • Waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams
  • Hat or buff
  • Gloves
  • Whistle
  • Charged mobile phone with emergency number stored
  • Foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent
  • Waterproof full leg cover
  • Means to carry a minimum of 500 mL water
  • Emergency food
  • Map of the route/area
  • Compass

The final decision on which items must be carried during the race will be made on the event day based on conditions and will be announced at registration. Runners must have the means to carry all kit if required. Failure to present the required items may lead to denied entry or disqualification, with random checks possible.

Registration and Logistics

Registration opens at 09:30 at the Tourist Information Office Car Park in Carlingford. A free coach transfer to the start line is available for the first 70 registered athletes. The coach departs sharply at 10:30 from the same car park. Entries on the day are not accepted. The minimum age for participation is 17 years.
